Stock counts
A stock count is a record of the stock that you physically count at one of your store locations, checked against the on-hand quantity that's recorded in Shopify for each product. When you count your stock regularly, you catch the differences that damage, administrative errors, or theft can cause, and you correct them before they turn into stockouts or overstock.
You can create a stock count by choosing a location and the products to count. Staff then perform the count by recording quantities with a barcode scanner or by entering them manually, and a manager can review and approve the results before your inventory levels change. At locations with a Shopify POS Pro subscription, staff can also perform the count in the Shopify POS app. Approving a count applies the difference between the counted and expected quantities, and each resulting change is recorded in your adjustment history.
You can view and manage your counts on the Inventory > Stock counts page of your Shopify admin.
