Test your app on the Shopify mobile app

You can bring the same apps from the Shopify admin to the Shopify mobile app. Using the same APIs as on desktop, your apps can reach thousands of users working from their smartphones, whether on mobile web or our native app.

App Bridge lets you embed your app directly inside the Shopify admin and Shopify mobile app. It also lets you access and customize many native GUI features of both platforms. This means you can use the same client-side library and app to deliver experiences to users no matter which device they’re using. Apps built using App Bridge are shown inside the Shopify mobile app using responsive layouts.

Use Shopify Polaris to build rich and responsive experiences. Polaris is also designed to work directly with App Bridge. Learn more in the Polaris Designing apps for Shopify guide.

All Partners can access apps inside the Shopify mobile app using development stores.

OS requirements for the Shopify mobile app

The Shopify mobile app works on Android devices and iOS devices including iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. The Shopify app supports the following OS versions:

• iOS - version 13.6+
• Android - version 5.0+

Testing your app on the Shopify mobile app

We strongly encourage all Shopify apps to work on mobile devices. When developing apps for mobile, you can test your app — even if it doesn’t use App Bridge — inside of the Shopify mobile app.

To test your app:

1. Create a development store or use an existing store that is attached to your Partner account.
2. Install your app on your development store.
3. Download the Shopify mobile app on your iOS or Android device.

You can also test your app using the Shopify admin on your mobile device’s browser.

Shopify mobile app capabilities

App functionality in the Shopify mobile app includes the following supported features:

• List of installed apps, each opening to the main App URL

• Admin links from resource types the Shopify mobile app supports natively. The following resource types are supported:
  • Orders Overview
  • Order Details
  • Products Overview
  • Product Details
  • Customers Overview
  • Customer Details

As Shopify continues to add support for apps in the Shopify mobile app, more capabilities will follow.

App Bridge support

Native adaptation of App Bridge features include:

• Primary buttons, secondary buttons, and title on the top app bar
• Loading state
• Toast messages

Apps that use App Bridge require no mobile-specific changes, as the API is the same for both. Apps that modify the experience for mobile can either use responsive layouts or screen width dependencies.
