Troubleshoot your abandoned checkout that has no shipping rates

If you don't configure your calculated shipping rates correctly, then your customers might not be able to purchase your products and can receive one of the following error messages during checkout:

  • There are no shipping methods available for your cart or address
  • Your cart has been updated and the items you added can't be shipped to your address

To fix your checkout that has no shipping rates, you need to complete the following troubleshooting steps.

Step 1: Check your default package

Confirm that your default package that is used to calculate shipping rates at checkout is configured correctly.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.

  2. In the Packages section, click Edit next to the package that you're using to calculate your shipping rates at checkout. This package is indicated with This package is used to calculate shipping rates at checkout notification.

  3. Confirm that the dimensions and weight of the default package are within the package size and weight limits of the carrier that you selected within your shipping settings. The package weight together with the product's weight shouldn't exceed the carrier's weight limit. Learn more about package size and weight limits.

When adding packages, there's an option to add carrier-specific packages that are intended for use with a specific service. For example, if the default package is set to a UPS-specific package like Express Envelope, only UPS Express rates are displayed at checkout. If you offer calculated rates from multiple different carriers to your customers, then it’s best to set up a custom package so that it can apply to any carrier and service.

Step 2: Review your shipping profile

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.

  2. Click Manage next to the applicable shipping profile.

  3. Confirm that the product you're selling is in the shipping profile.

  4. Check that the customer’s country is added to the applicable shipping zone.

  5. Confirm that shipping rates have been added to the customer’s shipping zone.

  6. Review the weight of the cart to check if it's eligible for the shipping services selected within the customer’s zone.

Step 3: Confirm your product information

Make sure that your product page has all the required information filled in.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Orders.

  2. Click Abandoned checkouts.

  3. Select the abandoned checkout from the list.

  4. Click your product to access its details.

  5. In the Shipping section, make sure that the weight of your product is entered correctly.

  6. In the Inventory section, confirm that your product has enough stock at the applicable location or that the Continue selling when out of stock checkbox is selected.

Step 4: Review your store's shipping origin address

Confirm that there are no issues with your store's shipping origin address.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Locations.
  2. Click your default location.
  3. Confirm that your default location's address details are correct, paying close attention to the address format.
  4. Make sure that there aren't any unsaved changes.
  5. Verify that the Fulfill online orders from this location checkbox is selected.
