About the Shopify Affiliate Program

The Shopify Affiliate Program is for educators, influencers, review sites, and content creators to educate their audience about entrepreneurship with Shopify and to earn commission for their referrals.

To apply for the Shopify Affiliate Program, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • You own and run an active website
  • You have an established audience
  • You create original content, such as online courses, blog posts, videos, or guides
  • You have experience with commerce, entrepreneurship, Shopify, or other ecommerce platforms
  • You have read the Shopify Partner Program Agreement

How do I know if my application is accepted?

Shopify carefully reviews your application. If your application is approved, then you receive an email with an affiliate link to promote Shopify, and some tools to help you get started. In most cases, applications to the Shopify Affiliate Program are processed within 15 business days.

Due to the high volume of submissions, Shopify doesn't provide feedback on applications that are denied.

How are referrals tracked?

Shopify affiliate referrals are tracked using a unique reference handle that's assigned to each affiliate when they're accepted into the program. Affiliates use this unique link to direct their audience to a Shopify property so that successful referrals can be attributed to them.

How much can I earn as an affiliate?

Shopify affiliates earn commission for merchants that they refer to Shopify through a link that contains their unique referral handle. Affiliates earn a 200% bounty for each successful merchant they refer to Shopify. This means that they earn 2x the monthly plan price selected by the merchant that they referred, after the merchant has been active for 2 months.

How do I get paid?

The Shopify Affiliate Program uses PayPal for affiliate payouts. For credits accumulated from the 1st of the month up to and including the 15th of the month, the payout occurs five business days after the 15th day of the month. For credits created from the 16th of the month up to and including the last day of the month, the payout occurs five business days after the last day of the month. If the commission balance is less than $25, then the balance is held until the next payout period.

What information can I track about the merchants I refer?

You can track the referrals you made, the total earnings in a pay period, and the total earnings to date. You can also track when a merchant has switched from a trial to a paid plan. If a merchant doesn't switch to a paid plan before the trial is over, then the merchant is marked as Frozen.
