Frequently asked questions
The Shopify Affiliate Program gives digital professionals (including designers, developers, marketers and influencers) all the tools they need to build successful businesses alongside Shopify. Our affiliates receive free training and resources to learn Shopify and grow your business.
If you have questions about joining the Shopify Affiliate community or how to get started, then you can read our FAQs about joining the program here. If you're already an affiliate, then you can read the FAQ below.
If you don't see the answer you're looking for, then you can contact our Affiliate Support.
How does the Shopify Affiliate Program work?
For each Shopify Merchant who signs up using your affiliate link, you'll earn a bounty payment worth two months of their monthly subscription fee (paid out over two months). For example, if a merchant chooses the $29 Basic Shopify plan, you'll earn $58 total, paid out in two $29 installments over two months.
How long does an affiliate tracking cookie last?
Our tracking cookies last 30 days, meaning that if a visitor clicks on your affiliate referral link posted on your website, then you will be credited with the referral as long as the visitor signs up for a 14-day free trial within 30 days. When that 14-day free trial ends and the user becomes a paying customer, you will earn a commission bounty.
How will I get paid and how often?
To learn more about getting paid, see Getting paid.
Do you accept payout methods other than PayPal?
No. The Shopify Affiliate Program supports only PayPal for affiliate payouts.
How do I dispute a payment amount?
For any payment disputes, contact your Affiliate Manager with the full details of the issue. We'll review your message and do what we can to resolve it.
Can a merchant be retroactively affiliated to my account?
The Shopify Affiliate Program doesn't support retroactive manual store affiliations for affiliate activities. The only way to reliably track a referral is through your affiliate link. This policy was made to keep the Shopify Affiliate Program as fair and reliable as possible.
What information can I track about the merchants I refer?
You can track who your merchants are, the total revenue in that pay period from all your merchants, and the total revenue to date from all your merchants. You can see when a merchant has switched from a Trial to a paid plan, or if they have not converted they will be marked as "frozen". For privacy reasons, you cannot see the revenue from a specific merchant.
Can I have multiple websites?
Yes. You can promote Shopify through all websites you own or are allowed to promote on as long as you don't use any restricted methods.
Do I earn commission from themes, apps, and other products outside of the subscription?
No, not under the Affiliate Program. You earn commission from the plan subscriptions you bring to Shopify.
Shopify websites, apps, and themes are mostly developed by third-party partners, and they earn the commission for building them. You can learn more about our Partner Program for designers and developers here.
Where can I find Shopify banners?
You'll receive banners inside your welcome email, but you can also access our most recent and up to date banner packs in different sizes here.
When you've selected the banner you want to use, copy and paste the code into your website or blog. To learn more about how to set up banners and text links, see Using banners and text links.
