When you create an event, the minimum requirements are to specify a title and a start date and time. All other event options are optional.
Customize your online store theme
You can create an event that changes the theme of your online store for the duration of the event. For example, if you want to use campaign-specific advertisements, then add these to your event theme. Similarly, your event theme can be customized to use a different navigation structure, home page layout, and images.
To switch your online store theme for an event:
Create an event-specific theme that contains all the changes that you want to make to your online store for the event. You can duplicate your current theme and use it as the basis for the event theme.
Create an event in Launchpad, select Enable themes, and then select both a theme to be used during the event and another theme to be used after the event:
Run checkout scripts
You can apply additional discounts during an event by scheduling Shopify Scripts to run for the duration of the event. Create an event that runs your event-specific line item and shipping scripts. Examples of the types of discounts that you can create using Shopify Scripts include:
- discounting products with specific tags
- running promotions such as buy 2, get 1 free
- offering a gift with purchase or free shipping for orders over a specific amount
To switch your Shopify scripts for an event:
Create a line item or shipping script for the event.
Create an event in Launchpad, select Enable line item scripts or Enable shipping scripts, and follow the instructions to select a script to be used during the event and another script to be used after the event. If you do not want to use a script after the event, then select No script from the After event dropdown.
Specify an end date
You can schedule an end date and time for an event when you create it. If you don't enter an end date, then you need to manually end the event from the Dashboard page. To learn how to end an event, see Ending Launchpad events
Lock your online store before an event
You can temporarily lock customers out of your online store for a small period of time before the event starts. For example, you could lock your store to build anticipation and to prevent customers from pre-filling their carts before the event starts.
To lock your online store before an event:
- Create an event in Launchpad and select Enable password page:
Your online store will be locked for the set duration of time before the start of the event. Your store will unlock automatically when the event starts.
Enable Captcha for an event
If you have a problem with bots buying your products during an event, then enable reCaptcha. When Captcha is enabled, your customers are challenged to prove that they are not a robot at checkout:
To enable reCaptcha challenges for the duration of an event:
- Create an event in Launchpad and select Enable reCaptcha:
