Considerations for setting up B2B payment methods
Before you set up payment methods for your B2B business, review the following considerations:
- The following payment methods are incompatible with Shopify B2B:
- Some payment methods have eligibility requirements based on region, business type, or product offering.
- If you operate a blended store, then the payment methods that you set up are available to all customers by default, depending on eligibility. However, you can customize the availability of these payment methods to specific customers or types of customers.
Available payment methods for B2B
You can use a variety of payment methods for your B2B business on Shopify. Review the following payment methods that are available to use with Shopify B2B.
Shopify Payments
Shopify Payments lets you accept all major payment methods as soon as you set up your Shopify store. You also don't need to set up a third-party payment provider or business account.
When you use Shopify Payments, you can do the following:
- Accept credit cards, debit cards, and local payment methods.
- Allow B2B customers to save their credit cards securely.
- Use vaulted cards to process future B2B payments from your Shopify admin.
- Start accepting payments as soon as you open your store.
Third-party payment providers
If you're not using Shopify Payments and you want to accept credit cards and debit cards in your store, then you can choose from over 100 third-party payment providers. You can choose this option based on eligibility, preference, or availability in your geographical location.
PayPal
You can activate PayPal as a payment option so your B2B customers can pay for their orders and invoices without using a credit card. You can also automatically reconcile payments within your Shopify admin.
If you’re setting up a blended store with PayPal already activated, then it’s automatically activated as a payment option for B2B orders without payment terms.
Manual payment methods
For orders that can’t be paid using a credit card, you can set up a manual payment method, such as money order or bank transfer. When your customers use a manual payment method, you can arrange to receive their payment in a way that works best for them. After you receive the payment, you can manually record the payment on the order in your Shopify admin.
Additional payment methods
You can set up alternative payment methods, such as cryptocurrency, to allow your B2B customers to pay for their orders online using something other than a credit card. Some alternative payment methods can be activated directly from your Shopify admin, and others might require you to install an app.
Customizing payment methods for your B2B business
You can control which payment methods your B2B and D2C customers have access to. After setting up your payment methods, you can customize payment method availability using Checkout Blocks. This app lets you hide, rename, and reorder payment methods based on conditions that you set.
You can also use the following options to customize which payment methods customers can use:
- A third-party app.
- A custom app using the Payment Customization Function API.
