Troubleshooting your Checkout Blocks content

The content of your Checkout Blocks might not display as expected due to various reasons, resulting in elements disappearing or not functioning properly. Common issues include that display rules aren't being met, or discrepancies exist between the settings in the block itself and how the app block has been added to the checkout and accounts editor.

On this page, you can find common troubleshooting steps for your Checkout Blocks app. If you're still having issues with Checkout Blocks after reviewing the steps in this guide, then reach out to Shopify Support for assistance.

Troubleshooting why a block isn't displaying properly in checkout

Sometimes, a block might not display at all in checkout, or might seem to not be respecting the display rules that you've set for the block. A checkout block might not display as expected in checkout due to the following common reasons:

  • You haven't added the block within Shopify's checkout and accounts editor. Creating some types of block in the Checkout Blocks app don't automatically apply it to your checkout configuration, so confirm that the app block has been added in the checkout and accounts editor on the appropriate checkout page.
  • The block isn't active. A block must be set to Active for it to display within the checkout.
  • The block hasn't been published to the appropriate market or checkout page. Review the Publishing settings of your block to confirm that it's published in all applicable markets and can display on all applicable checkout pages.
  • One or more display rules haven't been met, resulting in the block not displaying.
  • The app block ID doesn't match between the block in the Checkout Blocks app itself and the app block in the checkout and accounts editor. For example, if your block has an app block ID of 4, then it will only display in app blocks of the appropriate type in the checkout that have their app block ID set to 4.
  • In the checkout and accounts editor, confirm that the Preview block id field isn't populated within the app block's settings after saving. The Preview block id field should be empty.
  • The block has a lower priority than a different block of the same type which displays instead. Learn more about block priority.

Troubleshooting why a block is displaying multiple times in checkout

Depending on where you've added an app block within the checkout and accounts editor, it might display across every step of checkout. To display a block on a specific step, make sure to only add the app block to the main area of the step, and not in the Order summary section or attached to the Continue or return button, as those sections are consistent across all pages of the checkout.

You might have accidentally added an app block more times than required. Some block types, such as Line item edit app blocks, typically only need to be added to the checkout one time, and then just rely on different display rules to display different versions of the block as applicable. If block content is duplicated, then review your list of app blocks on the checkout page to make sure there aren't multiple app blocks added when there should be only one.

Troubleshooting issues with custom discounts

A custom discount might not apply as expected in checkout due to the following common reasons:

  • You can have only 25 active automatic discounts at any given time. This limitation applies across all discount apps. Learn more about limitations when combining discounts.
  • The discount isn't active. A custom discount must be set to Active for it to apply within the checkout, so make sure that the discount hasn't been deactivated or expired.
  • One or more discount rules haven't been met, resulting in the custom discount not being applied.

Troubleshooting issues with delivery and payment method customizations

A delivery or payment method customization might not display as expected in checkout due to the following common reasons:

  • The customization isn't active. A delivery or payment method customization must be set to Active for it to display within the checkout.
  • One or more rules haven't been met, resulting in the delivery or payment method not being hidden.
