Importing contacts from Mailchimp using the Store Importer app

This page explains how to use the Store Importer app to import your contacts from Mailchimp into Shopify.

Export contacts from Mailchimp

Before you can import your contact lists into Shopify, you need to export your contact lists from Mailchimp. Locate the customer group that you want to export from Mailchimp, and then select and organize the fields that you want to export.

How the Store Importer app works

The Store Importer app checks for matching email addresses or phone numbers in Shopify's customer list.

  • If there's no match, then a new customer record is created.

  • If there's a matching email address:

    • Email Marketing is set to true if the contact is subscribed to email marketing in Mailchimp, or false if the contact has unsubscribed from email marketing. If a customer already exists in your Shopify store and they have chosen to opt in or out of emails from you, then the Store Importer app will compare the dates of their decisions in both profiles and choose the most recent preference.
    • All blank fields are imported as shown in the table below.
    • All other fields are imported unchanged.
  • If there's a matching phone number, but a different email address, then the customer record in Shopify remains unchanged.

Customer lists in languages other than English are not supported. Verify that the fields you want to import match the examples in the table.

The following table shows which fields from a Mailchimp contact are imported into a Shopify customer record:
