Creating discounts with apps
In addition to the default discount types that are available with Shopify, you can create other types of discount using an app.
Review the following examples of discounts that you can create with a third-party app or a custom app:
- A discount that offers an amount off an order's shipping cost, based on the total cost of the products being purchased.
- A single discount that includes more than one discount saving, such as offering 10% off an order and free shipping at the same time.
Create your own discount with an app
You can create other types of discount in the Shopify admin using an app. With some third-party apps, you might need to create your discounts in the app's settings.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Discounts.
Click Create discount.
In the Select discount type dialog, select the discount type that you want from the app that you use.
Set up your discount, and then click Save discount.
To check which of your discounts you created with an app, then you can hover over a discount in the Discounts section of your Shopify admin, and an app badge and tooltip text are displayed.
Single discounts with multiple savings
You can create single discounts with multiple savings using a compatible third-party discounts app, or you can create your own custom app. You can offer your customers a single automatic discount or a single discount code that includes more than one discount saving when displayed in the cart or at checkout.
Review the following examples of single discounts with multiple savings that you can create with a compatible third-party app or a custom app:
- A
WELCOME10discount code that offers 10% off an order and a free shipping discount. - An automatic discount that gives 10% off each product price when a specified number of products are purchased from the same collection, plus an extra $10 USD off the total order cost as a loyalty bonus.
You can also apply a single discount code with multiple savings to a draft order.
Viewing discount classes
If you create a single discount with multiple savings, then you can check the discount classes that apply to the discount. Discount classes are the aspects of a customer checkout that a discount can apply to - product discount class, order discount class, and shipping discount class.
In the Discounts section of your Shopify admin, different icons are displayed alongside text in the Type column of your discounts table. If the 
icon displays with a number inside it, then this indicates a discount that includes two or more discount classes.
When you hover over a discount in the Type column, the numbered icon is replaced with a combination of the following icons:
- indicates that the discount includes a product discount class
- indicates that the discount includes an order discount class
- indicates that the discount includes a shipping discount class
In the Combinations column of your discounts table, if any of the , , and icons are displayed with a black outline, then this indicates which other discounts your discount can combine with. When you hover over the icons, a dialog displays with the specific details of the other discounts that your discount combines with.
