Editing product details in Oberlo
The products that you add from your import list already come with details from the supplier. Some of the details might not be relevant, and in some cases can be overwhelming for your customers.
You can edit the product details either before or after importing the products. Before importing, edit the details in the import list. After importing, edit the details in the Shopify admin.
Change the product title and description
You can change a product title on the Import List page in your Oberlo admin. To change a product description, click the Description tab for to the product you want to update.
Title - The name for your product as you want your customers to see it.
Description - The description for your product. This area uses the rich text editor so that you can format your text. Describe your products in detail to inform your potential customers. We recommend that you create your own product descriptions to make you products unique to search engines.
Edit product variants
You can edit a product variant in Oberlo on the Import List page by clicking the Variant tab for the product you want to update.
Adjust product weights
If you're setting up weight-based shipping rates, then you need to add weights to your products. If your supplier doesn't provide weights for their products, then using price-based shipping rates is another option.
You can add product weights during a product import or after the products have been imported.
Add product weights during a product import
Before you can add weights during a product import, you need to enable Set unit of measurement for product weight.
- From your Oberlo dashboard, go to the Settings page.
- Enable Set unit of measurement for product weight.
- In the drop-down menu, select the unit that you want to use for product weights, then click Save settings.
After this setting is enabled, you can add weights to products and variants in the Weight column of the Variants tab of a product during a product import. For more information, see Import products from your import list to your Shopify store.
Add product weights after a product import
If you have already imported your products, then you can edit the products within your Shopify admin to add product weights. For more information, see Product details.
Change product types and add tags
You can change a type and tags on the Import List page in Oberlo.
Product type - A category for the product that you can use to organize products. You can use product type as a condition for an automated collection.
Tags - Tags are searchable keywords that you can associate with your product. Tags can help customers find your product through your online store search, and you can also use them to create automated collections. For more information on adding or removing tags, see Add or remove tags.
Add products to collections
You can group your products into collections to make it easier for customers to find them by category. Here are a few examples of collections that you might create:
- clothes for men, women, or children
- home items of a certain type, such as lamps, cushions, or rugs
- sale items
- seasonal items such as holiday cards and decorations
When you create a collection, it is displayed on your online store as a gallery of the products that you've added to it. Customers can click a product image on the collection page to visit that product's page.
From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.
From the Collections page, click Create collection.
Enter the details for the collection.
Click Save collection.
For information on adding products to collections, see Collections.
You can change the collection for a product on the Import List page in Oberlo. The drop-down list displays only manual Shopify collections. Products that meet the requirements of any automatic collections are assigned automatically.
Choose product images
When you import a product to Shopify, high-quality product images are included. You can choose which images your customers see when viewing your products and variants. For information on product images, see Product images.
