Edit dropshipping product details in Oberlo

The products that you add from your import list already come with details from the supplier. Some of the details might not be relevant, and in some cases can be overwhelming for your customers.

You can edit some of these product details in your import list before you import your products into Shopify or directly in the Shopify admin after you've imported products:

Product title and description

You can change a product title on the Import List page in your Oberlo admin. To change a product description, click the Description tab for to the product you want to update.

  • Title - The name for your product as you want your customers to see it.

  • Description - The description for your product. This area uses the rich text editor so that you can format your text. Describe your products in detail to inform and persuade your potential customers. We recommend that you create your own product descriptions to make you products unique to search engines.

Product variants

You can edit a product variant in Oberlo on the Import List page by clicking the Variant tab for the product you want to update.

Product weights

If you're setting up weight-based shipping rates, then you will need to add weights to your products.

You can add weights in both the Oberlo app and the Shopify admin. Product weights will be added with the other variants when you import products to your Shopify store.

You can be add a weight or change an existing weights when importing products in Oberlo. On the Import List page in your Oberlo admin, click the Variants tab for to the product you want to update.

Change the unit of measurement for weight


  1. From your Oberlo dashboard, click Settings > Store Settings.

  2. Check Set unit of measurement for product weight.

  3. In the drop-down, select the unit that you want to use for product weights.

  4. Click Save Settings

Product type and tags

You can change a type and tags on the Import List page in Oberlo.

  • Product type - A category for the product that you can use to organize products. You can use product type as a condition for an automated collection.

  • Tags - Tags are searchable keywords that you can associate with your product. Tags can help customers find your product through your online store search, and you can also use them to create automated collections. For more information on adding or removing tags, see Add or remove tags.

Product collections

You can group your products into collections to make it easier for customers to find them by category. Here are a few examples of collections that you might create:

  • clothes for men, women, or children
  • home items of a certain type, such as lamps, cushions, or rugs
  • sale items
  • seasonal items such as holiday cards and decorations

When you create a collection, it is displayed on your online store as a gallery of the products that you've added to it. Customers can click a product image on the collection page to visit that product's page.

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Products > Collections.

  2. From the Collections page, click Create collection.

  3. Enter the details for the collection.

  4. Click Save collection.

You can change the collection for a product on the Import List page in your Oberlo. The drop-down list displays only manual Shopify collections. Automatic collections are assigned automatically.

Product images

When you import a product to Shopify, high-quality product images are included. You can choose which images your customers will see when viewing your products and variants. For information on product images, see Product images.
