Understanding Shopify Balance transaction limits and fund transfers

With Shopify Balance, you can transfer funds, view your account transaction limits, and export transactions for your accounting software from your Shopify admin.

Your Shopify Balance account has daily spending limits for different transaction types. Daily spending limits are reset at midnight Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Daily limits are based on the authorization date, not the processing date. For example, if you authorize a transaction on Monday, but it's processed on Tuesday, then that transaction still counts toward Monday's daily limit.

Fees

Shopify doesn't charge any fees for using your Balance card, but Automated Teller Machine (ATM) provider fees might apply. You can find more information about fees in your Terms of Service.

Shopify Balance spending limits

Each Shopify Balance card has its own spending limit. This applies to both physical and virtual cards. For example, if you have a limit of $5000 USD, then you can spend $5000 USD on your physical card, and $5000 USD on your virtual card.

ATM withdrawal limits

Daily ATM withdrawal limits include any ATM provider fees that might be charged when you withdraw funds. For example, if your remaining daily ATM withdrawal limit is $200 USD and the ATM provider fees are $3 USD, then you can't withdraw more than $197 USD.

If there’s a problem with your ATM cash withdrawal, then contact the ATM provider.

View transaction limits

You can view the Balance card limits for purchases and ATM withdrawals. The daily limits aren't available credit, and apply only to the funds that you have in your account. If there’s a problem with your ATM cash withdrawal, then contact the ATM provider.

Transfer funds from a connected bank account

You can transfer funds from a bank account that you’ve connected through Shopify's integration with Plaid. Funds will take up to 6 business days to arrive in your Balance account. If you need to cancel a transfer, then you can do so only within the first 2 days after the transfer is authorized.

Failed transactions

If your bank account doesn’t have enough funds, then the transfer might fail, or your bank might charge a fee if your account becomes overdrawn. Failed transactions don't appear in your Balance account.

Bank unavailable on Plaid

If your bank isn’t available on Plaid, then you can log in to your bank account and transfer funds using your Balance account's routing and account numbers. Funds transferred using your Balance account's routing and account numbers might take up to 3 business days to be available in your Balance account.
