Setting up your Shopify Balance account
Shopify Balance is a financial tool that lets you manage your business finances, pay bills, and make purchases directly through your Shopify account using your Balance card.
To set up Shopify Balance, you need to be a Shopify merchant in the United States or Puerto Rico with Shopify Payments activated and meet specific eligibility requirements. If you're eligible and haven't activated Shopify Payments yet, then you automatically receive a Balance account when you first activate Shopify Payments.
Only the account owner can set up your store's Shopify Balance account. After your Shopify Balance account is set up, it becomes the account connected to your Shopify Payments account. Your payouts are deposited into your main Shopify Balance account, including any financing that you receive through Shopify Capital.

Set up your Shopify Balance account
If you're already using Shopify Payments, then you can set up Shopify Balance from the Finance section of your Shopify admin.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Finance.
Click Main.
Click Open account.
Review your Shopify Payments information, and then click Confirm.
Enter your Social Security Number (SSN) and mobile number, then click Confirm.
Select the box to confirm that you agree with the Shopify Balance Account Agreement and the Shopify Balance Card Agreement, including financial institution partner privacy policies and E-SIGN disclosure, and then click Open account.
Getting started with your Shopify Balance account
When you have your Shopify Balance account set up, you can complete some tasks to start using your Shopify Balance funds to pay for bills.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Finance > Balance.
In the Getting started with Shopify Balance section, complete the following tasks:
- Add funds to start earning: Click View account details to add funds to your Shopify Balance account so that you can start paying bills and earning rewards.
- Add card to mobile wallet: If you're using a desktop device, then click Send link to receive an email that you can open on a mobile device which lets you add your Shopify Balance card to your mobile wallet. If you're using a mobile device, then tap Add card to add your Shopify Balance card to your mobile wallet. Learn more about Shopify Balance cards.
If you add funds to your Shopify Balance account, then you can complete the following tasks:
- Order a physical card: Click Confirm mailing address and then enter the delivery address for your physical Shopify Balance card.
- Pay bills and get cash back: Click Update payment methods to make your Shopify Balance account your primary payment method for bills associated with your business. During this process, you can log in to vendor accounts such as Meta and Google to make Shopify Balance the payment method for bills associated with these accounts.
