Managing your Shopify Balance cards

The Shopify Balance card is an easy way to manage the expenses of running your business. When you set up your Shopify Balance account, your virtual card is automatically activated. If you have multiple accounts set up for Balance, then you can only get a card for the main account.

Shopify doesn't charge any fees for using your Balance card, but ATM provider fees may apply. You can find more information about fees in your Terms of Service.

Setting up a physical Shopify Balance card

When you create your Shopify Balance account, your virtual card is automatically activated. If you want a physical card, you can request one from Shopify.

Request a physical Shopify Balance card

You can request a physical card for your Shopify Balance account.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. Click Order a physical card.

  4. Optional: Customize your Balance card by adding your business name.

  1. Enter or confirm your shipping information, and then click Order card.

After you order your physical card, you can access your card's delivery status and estimated delivery date by going to Finances > Balance, selecting your main account, and then clicking the physical card under Your Balance cards.

For security reasons, you might receive a prompt to authenticate your account again.

Reorder a physical Shopify Balance card that wasn't delivered

If you have requested a physical card for your Shopify Balance account and there's an issue with the card being delivered, then you can order a new card.

Before you request a new card, review your card's delivery status and estimated delivery date by going to Finances > Balance, selecting your main account, and then clicking the physical card under Your Balance cards. Verify that your shipping details are correct when you request a new card.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. Under Your Balance cards, click the physical card.

  4. Click Cancel and replace or Order new card.

  5. Select Card not received, and then click Next.

Your undelivered card is canceled, and then a new card is shipped to you.

Activate a physical Shopify Balance card

After you have received your Shopify Balance card in the mail, you need to activate it before you can use it. To begin the process, you can scan the QR code on your package or go to your Shopify admin.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. Under Your Balance cards, click Activate physical card.

  4. Enter the last four digits of your Shopify Balance card, and then click Next.

  5. Enter a four-digit Personal Identification Number (PIN) for your Shopify Balance card, and then click Next.

  6. Enter your PIN again, and then click Confirm.

  7. Enter the confirmation code sent to you by text message, and then click Activate. If you don't receive a text message with your code, then click Resend code.

Managing a Shopify Balance card

You can view Shopify Balance card details, lock your cards, reset your PIN and more, by going to Finances > Balance and then clicking your virtual or physical card.

View card information

You can view your virtual or physical card information, such as the card number or cardholder details.

For security reasons, you might receive a prompt to authenticate your account again.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. In the Your Balance cards section, click the card that you want to view.

Link your Shopify Balance card to an Apple or Google wallet

You can add your virtual or physical Shopify Balance card to Apple Wallet or Google Pay.

Add your virtual or physical Shopify Balance card to Apple Wallet or Google Pay using your Balance card numbers. To find your Balance card numbers, go to your Shopify Balance page, click on your main account, and then click on the card that you want to link. Refer to Apple Wallet or Google Pay for the appropriate steps.

Replace your Shopify Balance card

Ordering a replacement card will cancel your current Shopify Balance card. Your new Shopify Balance card ships within eight business days and is sent through standard shipping.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. Under Your Balance cards, click your physical Balance card.

  4. Click More, and then click Cancel and replace.

  5. Select a reason for canceling and replacing your Shopify Balance card, and then click Next.

  6. Review your shipping address to make sure it's correct, and click Confirm and replace card. If you need to update your address, then click Edit, edit your address, and then click Confirm and replace card.

For security reasons, you might receive a prompt to authenticate your account again.

Reset your Shopify Balance card PIN

You can reset your card's PIN.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. Under Your Balance cards, click the card whose PIN you want to reset.

  4. Click More, and then click Reset PIN.

  5. Enter a four digit PIN, and then click Next.

  6. Re-enter your PIN, and then click Confirm.

  7. Enter the confirmation code sent to you by text message, and then click Reset PIN.

Lock your Shopify Balance card

If your Shopify Balance card is lost or stolen, then you need to lock it so that no one else can use it.

For security reasons, you might receive a prompt to authenticate your account again.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. Under Your Balance cards, click the card that you want to lock.

  4. Click Lock card.

  5. Click Lock card again to confirm.

You can unlock your Shopify Balance card by clicking Unlock card, and then clicking Unlock card again on the Shopify Balance card page in your Shopify admin.

Dispute a charge

You can dispute a charge on your Shopify Balance card for the following reasons:

  • fraudulent
  • not received
  • duplicate
  • merchandise not as described
  • service not as described
  • canceled
  • other reasons

To dispute a charge on your Shopify Balance card, contact support. When you speak with support, provide as much evidence and information as possible.

If your dispute is lost, then you can contact support for more information.

Updating your cardholder details

You can update your Shopify Balance cardholder details, including your billing address and phone number, in your Shopify Balance account.

If you have a physical card as well as a virtual card, then any changes that you make apply to both cards.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Balance.

  2. Select your main account.

  3. Under Your Balance cards, click your virtual or physical card.

  4. Click View cardholder details.

  5. Click Edit to change your billing address or mobile phone number.

Set your Shopify Balance card as your primary payment method

You can use your Shopify Balance virtual or physical card to pay for your Shopify bill and purchases. If you use your Shopify Balance virtual card, then you won’t have to enter any card details. Instead, select your Shopify Balance virtual card as your preferred payment method.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Finances > Billing.

  2. Click the ... button beside the payment method that you want to change, and then click Replace.

  3. Enter the required information.

  4. Click Replace credit card.

Your Shopify Balance card gives you access to the following Visa card benefits:

  • Auto rental coverage for damage due to collision or theft
  • Roadside assistance
  • Travel and emergency assistance service
  • Cardholder Inquiry Service
  • Emergency card and cash disbursement
  • Lost or stolen card reporting
