Adding the Planet checkout extension to your online store

Plan requirement

The Planet checkout extension is only available to stores on the Shopify Plus plan.

In addition to adding the Planet badge to your online store to showcase your climate commitment, you can add the Planet checkout extension. This extension lets your customers add $0.50 USD to their checkout to make their shipment carbon neutral and fund high-impact carbon removal projects.

Considerations for adding the Planet checkout extension

Before you add the Planet checkout extension to your online store, review the following considerations:

• You need to be on a Shopify Plus plan.
• You need to have Planet installed.
• You need to have an active subscription to a Planet subscription plan.
• You need to subscribe to Planet’s Community or Alliance plans.

Add the Planet checkout extension to your checkout

You can embed the Planet checkout extension directly into your checkout experience.

Steps:

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout.

2. In the Configurations section, click Customize. This takes you to the theme editor.

3. In the sidebar, click the Apps icon.

4. Search for Shopify Planet.

5. Click the Add button, and then click Add to shipping. This adds the Planet checkout extension to the Shipping page in your checkout.

Customizing the Planet checkout extension

After you've added the Planet checkout extension, there are some additional ways you can customize how the extension displays in your checkout using the theme editor.

Attribute	Description	Customization options
Include app block in Shop Pay	This setting displays the Planet checkout extension to customers who choose Shop Pay at checkout.	You can choose to turn this on or off.
Automatically expand sections to show app	Some sections are collapsed by default, which might hide the Planet checkout extension. This setting expands checkout sections to make sure the extension is displayed to all customers.	You can choose to turn this on or off.
Hide Logo	The Planet logo is depicted as a light green circle with a dark leaf.	You can choose to set this to True to hide the logo, or False to show the logo.
