Customize Shopify Inbox chat settings and appearance
You can customize the appearance of the chat, the instant answers that are available to your customers, and the pre-chat form that displays to your customers.

Turn on online store chat
From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
Click Customize next to the theme that you want to edit.
Select App embeds, and then click Shopify Inbox.
In the Shopify Inbox section, toggle on the Online store chat button.
Click Save.
Turn on Shop chat
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Apps and sales channels.
From the Apps and sales channels page, click Inbox.
Click Open sales channel.
In the Shop chat is off section, click Set up chat.
In the Shop chat section, click Turn on.
Optional: In the Brand section, customize the greeting that displays to customers when they start a chat with you in the Shop app.
Add a profile picture
You can personalize your online store chat appearance by adding a profile picture to Shopify Inbox. Your Shopify Inbox avatar uses the picture from your account settings. You can change your profile picture by updating your account details in your Shopify admin.
Steps:
- From Shopify Inbox, go to Settings > Message preferences.
- In the Avatar section, check Use admin profile picture.
Customize your brand, chat button, and greeting message
From your theme editor, you can personalize the look of the Shopify Inbox chat button, its location on your online store, and your chat greeting message.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
Click Customize next to the theme that you want to edit.
Select App embeds, and then click Shopify Inbox.

In the Brand customization section, do any of the following:
- Click Color to access the color picker, then select or enter a hexadecimal code for your background, text, or button color.
- From the Icon drop-down menu, select the icon that you want to display for the chat button on your online store.
- From the Label drop-down menu, select the label that you want to display for the chat button on your online store.
- From the Horizontal position and Vertical position sections, select the position where you want the chat button to display on your online store.
- In the Greeting message text box, enter the message that you want to display to your customer when they click on the chat button.
Click Save.
