Installing and accessing Shopify Inbox

After you install Shopify Inbox on your Shopify store, you can access your conversations on the web, or install the app on your iOS or Android device. Customers can start a conversation from your online store chat, and you can read and respond to your customers messages from your desktop, or by using the Shopify Inbox app on your iOS or Android device.

iOS 15 permission requirements

If you update your device to iOS 15 or higher and use third-party Shopify apps, then you might need to activate Cross-Website tracking in your iOS settings. Cross-Website tracking lets third-party Shopify apps that you install in your Shopify admin stay connected in Shopify Inbox, Shopify Point of Sale, and the Shopify app.

To activate Cross-Website tracking, complete the following steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap Shopify, Shopify POS, or Shopify Inbox.
  3. Activate Allow Cross-Website Tracking.

Store permission requirements

Store owners or organization owners and users who have user roles with the required permissions can use all the Shopify Inbox features. Only users who have user roles with all the available permissions can manage chat availability. POS only staff don't have access to Shopify Inbox.

You only need to give this permission to the staff members who you want to manage apps and sales channels. Staff members who don't have this permission can still use the apps and sales channels. For more information, refer to the description of staff permissions.

Install Shopify Inbox on your Shopify store

To use Shopify Inbox, you need to first install the app on your Shopify store. For details on how to install an app, refer to Installing apps.

After you install the Shopify Inbox app to your store, you can set up your chat settings and appearance and configure your inbox settings.

Access Shopify Inbox to manage messages

After you install the Shopify Inbox app on your store, you can access and manage your messages on a desktop computer, or you can download the Shopify Inbox app for iOS or Android. You can access you conversations in any of the following ways:

Switch between multiple inboxes

If you have Inbox installed on multiple stores, then you can easily switch between each store’s inbox. You will also receive notifications for each store that you are logged in to. To unregister from notifications for a shop you can log out of that store by clicking the log out of <store name> button. Learn to manage notification preferences here.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. In Shopify Inbox, click the store name in the top left of the screen.
  2. From the dropdown, select the store that you want to switch to, or click Add store to install Inbox on another store.
iPhone
  1. From the Shopify Inbox mobile app, tap the menu button.
  2. Below the filter options, tap the store that you want to switch to, or tap Add store to add Inbox on another store.
Android
  1. From the Shopify Inbox mobile app, tap the menu button.
  2. Below the filter options, tap the store that you want to switch to, or tap Add store to add Inbox on another store.
