Set up local currencies
When you create a new single-country market, the base currency for the market is set to the currency for that country or region. If the currency is not supported, then the market base currency is set to your store's base currency.
When you create a multiple-country market, the default base currency for the market is set to your store's base currency, and local currencies are active, meaning that each country or region in your multiple-country market can view their prices in the default currency for their country or region. When necessary, you can deactivate local currencies for a multiple-country market, and then set the currency for all countries and regions in that multiple-country market. When local currencies are deactivated, all customers in that market will see and pay in the one currency that you choose.
Local currencies must be deactivated in order to set up a manual exchange rate for a market.
Managing local currencies for a multiple-country market
When you create a multiple-country market, local currencies are active by default. If local currencies are deactivated in a market, then you can activate local currencies again. You can adjust this for a single market in that market's settings, or for multiple markets in your preferences in the Markets section of the admin.
When local currencies are set up, you need to direct your customers to the URL that matches their language and location preferences.
Adjust local currencies for a single market
From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Markets.
Click the market where you want to adjust local currency settings.
Click Products and pricing.
In the Pricing section, complete either of the following steps:
- To activate local currencies, select the Show prices to customers in their local currency checkbox.
- To deactivate local currencies, deselect the Show prices to customers in their local currency checkbox, and then click Deactivate. When local currencies are turned off, all customers in that market see prices in that market's base currency.
Click Save.
