Listing products with the Amazon sales channel

The Amazon sales channel lets you create and manage listings to sell your products on Amazon. Your Shopify products aren't automatically listed on Amazon when you activate the Amazon sales channel. Instead, you can link Shopify to your existing Amazon listings, create an offer for a product you sell that is already being sold on Amazon, or create a new listing for a product that is new to Amazon.

After you've created a listing, it's submitted to Amazon for approval. Most successful listings are approved within a few hours. If your listing is approved, then it will appear in the Amazon marketplace. You can manage your Amazon sales channel listings in your Shopify admin.

Create a new listing for a product

If you are a brand owner or you are selling a product that isn't already listed on Amazon, then you will need to create a new listing for your product.

Before you create a listing with the Amazon sales channel, you will need a UPC or EAN code for each product variant you want to list unless you are brand registered. Amazon will use the UPC or EAN to create an ASIN, which identifies your product on Amazon.

  1. Click Create listing.

  2. Select the product from your Shopify catalog that you want to list on Amazon, then click Select product:

  3. On the Search page, click Create listing:

  4. From the category list, find the category that matches your product:

After you select a category, you need to edit your product details before publishing to Amazon. Some product details are automatically synced, and their related fields on the listing details are filled out for you. Details that you enter on the Amazon listing details page don't affect your product details elsewhere in Shopify.

To edit your product details:

  1. Complete the fields in the Amazon listing details:

  2. In the Variants section, select the product options that apply to your product. For example, if you're selling a white T-shirt that comes in different sizes, then you would select Size. You can't change the product options after you publish the listing to Amazon, but you can add more variants within the options that you've selected.

  1. Fill in the Details fields (including the Product Identifier), choose Inventory Management settings, enter the Production time if applicable, and select an image for your variant. Repeat this step for all of the variants that you want to add to the listing.

  2. Click Publish.

Add a UPC or EAN code

Amazon requires that all new listings have a GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), a unique product identifier for each product variant that is used to create an ASIN. When you’re creating a listing through the Amazon sales channel, then you can add a UPC or EAN code to your product variant information to fulfill this requirement. The product identifier you add will automatically be included when you create an Amazon listing.

You can read more about using GTIN product identifiers at the Amazon Help Center. It is important not to invent false GTIN information for your products. Learn more about barcodes and GTINs.

You can add the UPC or EAN code in the Barcode field for a product variant when you are creating a new listing in the Amazon sales channel.

Add the barcode by editing a product

  1. In Shopify, go to a product page.

  2. In the Inventory section, click Edit beside a variant.

  3. In the Barcode field, enter the GTIN for the product variant.

  4. Click Save.

Add your registered brand

If you're Brand Registered on Amazon, then you can create listings without GTINs. You can add a registered brand to the Amazon sales channel from the Account page. You need to use the same brand name that you use on Amazon Seller Central.

  1. Click Account.

  2. In the Amazon Brand Registry section, click Add registered brand.

  3. Enter your brand name, and then select the listing category and attribute for the brand.

  4. Click Add brand.

After you add your registered brand, you can select it when creating a listing and you won't have to add a GTIN for the listing.

Create an offer for a product on Amazon

If you want to sell a product that is already on Amazon, then you can create an offer.

You can use the Amazon sales channel to find the product on Amazon, then match it to a product in your Shopify admin and edit the details for the offer.

  1. Click Create listing.

  2. Select the product from your Shopify catalog that you want to list on Amazon, then click Select product.

  3. On the Search page, click Find Product.

This displays a list of similar products in the Amazon catalog. You can click View on Amazon to see the full product details. If your Shopify product doesn't match any of these, then you need to create a new listing in Amazon.

  1. Find the product on Amazon that matches your product, then click Select.

After you match your product to one on Amazon, you need to choose which variants to offer and edit the listing:

  1. On the Edit listing page, choose which variants to add to your offer by matching the Amazon variants with your Shopify product variants. If you don't want to add a specific variant to your listing, select Don't offer variant from the SHOPIFY VARIANTS drop-down.

  2. For each variant you add to the listing, enter a list price and choose inventory settings.

  3. When you're done, click Publish.

If you're already selling on Amazon, then you can link your existing Amazon listings to your Shopify products. If you link your Shopify products to your Amazon listings, then you can manage your existing listings through your Shopify admin. Linking your existing listings can also prevent you from accidentally creating two offers for the same product.

  1. If any linkable products are detected by the Amazon sales channel, then a banner will appear. Products that are fulfilled using Fulfillment by Amazon in Amazon Seller Central can't be linked to your Shopify products because the Amazon sales channel doesn't support FBA offers. Click Link products from the Listings page.

  2. Click Browse products next to the product you want to link to your Shopify product.

  3. In the Select a product dialog, click the product you want to link to, then click Select product.

  4. Select how you'd like to manage inventory for the products you are linking.

  5. Enter a Production time, if required. If you choose Not required for these products, then the default production time is set to 2 days. If you need more time to produce the item before shipping, then you need to enter the number of days when linking, even if you have already set a different production time in Amazon Seller Central. Otherwise, the production time in Amazon will be set to the default of 2 days.

  6. Select the variant you'd like to link to your Amazon listing.

  7. Click Link products to link your existing Amazon listing to your Shopify product.

After you've linked a product to a listing, it will appear on the Listings page of your Shopify admin.

You can unlink all the linked variants for a product on the Edit listing page.
