Shopify Payments
Checkout on Facebook and Instagram is powered by Shopify Payments. Using Shopify Payments lets you keep all of your payment processes in one place. Shopify Payments eliminates the hassle of setting up a third-party payment provider or merchant account and having to enter the credentials into Shopify.
If your store has Shopify Payments activated, then you receive payments through Shopify Payouts when a customer pays using Checkout on Facebook and Instagram.
For more information about Shopify Payments, refer to Shopify Payments.
Shop Pay for third-party gateways
If you don't have Shopify Payments activated and your store meets eligibility requirements, then you can activate Shop Pay for third-party gateways.
Shop Pay for third-party gateways activates Shop Pay as an accelerated checkout for your online store, Facebook, and Instagram.
When you use Shop Pay for third-party gateways, you receive payments through Shopify Payments payouts after a customer pays using Checkout on Facebook and Instagram.
Order processing
When an order is placed on Facebook and Instagram, a hold is placed on the order and an on hold status displays next to the order in your Shopify admin. This hold allows for Facebook's payment authorization, and fraud analysis, and you can't fulfill the order until the hold is removed. The hold is typically removed within 5 minutes, but might be in place for up to 24 hours.
Adding tracking information is a requirement of using Facebook and Instagram by Meta. You can add tracking information to an order when you mark it as fulfilled. After you enter the tracking information and click Fulfill items, Facebook then reviews the purchase before capturing the payment.
After the payment is captured, the order status changes to Fulfilled.
Discounts
Most discounts that are created in your Shopify admin and are made available to the Facebook sales channel automatically sync to Facebook. The following discounts don't sync with Facebook:
- Free Shipping discounts
- Discounts that have user targeting criteria.
When the discounts in your Shopify admin sync to Facebook, any promotions created in your Facebook Commerce Manager are archived. You can visit the Offers tab in the Commerce Manager to display historical data about your promotions, and access promotion performance insights to help make merchandising decisions about discounts.
Products
Checkout on Facebook and Instagram doesn't support taxes being included in product prices. If you include taxes in product prices, then you need to uncheck this option in your Tax settings.
Products also need to be approved by Facebook, and can't be restricted products as outlined in Facebook's Commerce Policies.
Shipping
All of your shipping profiles and settings are synced to Facebook from your Shopify admin. Make sure that your shipping settings are up to date and accurate in your Shopify admin.
