Set up the Shop channel

Set up the Shop channel to manage how your Shop Store displays to customers in the Shop app, and manage your shopping settings. Using the Shop channel allows you to manage settings that help improve your customers' shopping experience in the Shop app.

Add the Shop channel to Shopify

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.
  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shopify App Store.
  3. If applicable, then log in to continue to the Shopify App Store.
  4. From the Shopify App Store, search for Shop to learn more about the sales channel.
  5. Click Add channel or Add app.

If you don’t want to sell on Shop, then you can opt out of Sell with Shop. To remove the Shop channel, refer to Removing a sales channel from your Shopify admin.

Sell with Shop

The Sell with Shop setting manages all the features that let customers purchase from your store on Shop. This includes the Shop Store, product detail pages, and checkout. This setting allows you to sell your products on the Shop app, and must be activated for your store to be discoverable in searches.

If your store meets the eligibility requirements in the Shop Merchant Guidelines, then the Sell with Shop setting is activated automatically. If you don't want to sell your products on the Shop app, then you can deactivate the Sell with Shop setting.

Opt out of Sell with Shop

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shop.

  3. Click Open sales channel.

  4. Click Settings.

  5. In the Sell with Shop section, click Deactivate.

Shop search is designed with ranking systems that help customers quickly find relevant and useful search results in the Shop app.

If your store meets the eligibility requirements in the Shop Merchant Guidelines, and you have the Sell with Shop settings activated in the Shop channel, then your customers can discover your Shop Store and the products in your store from the Search tab in the Shop app.

Customize your Shop Store

You can use the Shop channel to view your Shop Store as it displays to Shop app users. You can also edit your brand assets, store information, and change the order in which product collections display in your Shop Store.

The Shop channel automatically syncs with your online store's brand assets to display certain information in Shop such as your logo, cover image, store background, store description, and store policies. You can update what displays in Shop by changing your settings in the Shop channel.

Edit your Shop Store home page

In the Shop Store home section of the Shop channel, you can edit your header, announcement bar, category, and collections.

If you want to add background media to your Shop Store such as an image, GIF, or video, then ensure that your files to meet the following requirements:

  • Image files must be under 15 MB in size, and be in WEBP, PNG, JPG, or GIF formats.
  • Video files must be under 32 MB in size, no longer than 10 seconds in duration, and be in an MP4 or MOV format.

The suggested dimensions for all media types are 1080 x 1170 pixels.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

  2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shop.

  3. Click Open sales channel.

  4. In the Store section, click Customize.

  5. From the drop down menu at the top of the page, select Shop Store home.

  6. Review the table below to learn more about how you can edit your store information, and then click Save.

Announcement bannerTo update your announcement banner, click Announcement banner.
  • If your store has an active automatic discount available, then the Announcement banner section is automatically activated.
  • To edit the announcement banner, you need to deactivate your automatic discount and create a new one.
  • NavigationTo update your navigation, click Navigation > Edit category list, and then do any of the following:
  • To add or remove an available collection from your navigation, check or uncheck a collection, and then click Save.
  • To search collections, type in the Filter box.
  • To sort collections, click Sort to sort your collection by letter or update status.
  • To change the title of a collection for how it displays on your navigation, click the collection from the selected list and change the navigation title.
  • You can add up to 12 collections to display in your navigation.
    CollectionsTo update your collections, click Collection list, and then do any of the following:
  • Click the blue plus icon to add a collection.
  • Click Upload a cover image to display to Select image, or drag and drop an image to upload a file so that your collection displays on Shop.
  • Click a collection and then click Edit collection list to manage your collection. You can add up to five collection lists, where each collection list can include up to ten collections. After you add a collection to a collection list, that collection can't be added to another collection list.
  • To delete a collection, click the Trash can icon.
  • To reorder a collection, click and drag the ⋮⋮ icon to move the collection to a specific position in a section.
  • HeaderTo update your header, click Header, and then do any of the following:
  • To add a one-line description of your brand to your store header, in the Slogan section, write a slogan up to 80 characters in the Slogan text box.
  • To change your Shop Store colors, in the Background section, click Color to select the primary color that you want to use in your backgrounds, buttons, and accents.
  • To change the logo that displays in your Shop Store, in the Logo section, click Select image, or drag and drop an image to upload a file.
  • To feature an image, GIF, or video, in the Background section, click Media > Change to upload a file.
  • To increase the contrast of the overlay of your image or video to improve visibility,in the Overlay intensity section, move the slider to the right to increase the overlay intensity, and left to decrease the overlay intensity.
  • Edit your store information

    You can edit your store description, contact information, and category visibility in the Store information section of the Shop channel.

    Steps:

    1. From your Shopify admin, click Settings > Apps and sales channels.

    2. From the Apps and sales channels page, click Shop.

    3. Click Open sales channel.

    4. In the Store section, click Customize.

    5. From the drop down menu at the top of the page, select Store information.

    6. Do any of the following:

      • To change the description that displays on your Shop Store, click Description, and then write a store description up to 320 characters.
      • To hide the categories section from your Shop Store, hover and click the eye icon next to Categories. Learn more about managing products, collections, and categories on Shop.
      • To change the contact information that displays in your Shop Store such as your contact URL, email, phone number, and social media profiles, click Contact & social, and then enter your contact information.
      • If you want to return to your Shopify admin to edit your online store, then under Online store, click Manage online store.
      • If you want to return to your Shopify admin to edit your store policies, then under Store policies, click Manage policies.
    7. Click Save.
