Pricing and managing your products

To publish your products on Handshake, you need to assign each product a wholesale price, items per case amount, and minimum order amount. This information is displayed next to your products while retailers are browsing and buying on Handshake.

You also need to set a product category for each product from the predefined categories in Handshake. For example, if you're selling women's T-shirts, then you would choose Apparel & Footwear > Women's Apparel. If you want a single product to appear in two different categories, then you have to duplicate the product in the Shopify admin and assign all copies to different product categories in Handshake.

Add wholesale prices and product details

You can set product prices and details individually or in bulk.

Set details individually

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Handshake > Products.
  2. Select a product.
  3. In the Category section, choose the category that best matches the product.
  4. Optional: If you want all the product's variants to have the same pricing details, then in the Pricing section click Apply to all variants.
  5. For each variant, enter the pricing details:
    • Wholesale price - The price per unit that a retailer would pay if they bought the product wholesale. This must be lower than the Retail price.
    • Retail price - The recommended price for retailers to sell the product. By default, this is the price of the product listed in your Shopify admin.
    • Minimum order - The minimum number of items of the variant that a retailer must purchase per order.
    • Items per case - The quantity of a variant in a single case that you would send to the retailer. For example, if a box of a particular variant contains 50 of that variant, then you would enter 50.
  6. Click Save.

To edit the details of a product, go to Products in your Shopify admin, and then click the product that you want to edit. If you want to have different product details for the same product, then you need to duplicate the product in your Shopify admin and edit the details of the individual versions.

Set details in bulk

When you set prices and details in bulk, they apply to all variants of each product. If you want to change the price or details of a specific variant, refer to Set details individually.

When you edit products in bulk, you can change the product categories, product prices, items per case, and minimum order amounts.


  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Handshake > Products.
  2. Select the products that you want to edit, and then click Edit.
  3. Optional: In the Category section, choose the category that best matches the products.
  4. Optional: Choose how you want to set the product prices:
    • To set a specific price that applies to each product, such as $10 USD, select Fixed wholesale price and then enter the price.
    • To set prices to be a percentage off of each products' original price, such as 15% off the original price, select Percentage discount and then enter the percentage amount. For example, suppose that you were editing three products that had prices of $50 USD, $75 USD, and $100 USD. If you entered a percentage discount of 15%, then the wholesale prices would become $42.50 USD, $63.75 USD, and $85 USD.
  5. Optional: Add any additional details:
    • Items per case - The number of items that are in a standard container for the product.
    • Minimum order - The smallest number of items a customer can order of one product.
  6. Click Done, and then click Save.

Publish and unpublish products

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Handshake > Products.
  2. Click the product.
  3. In the Status section, select whether to publish or unpublish the product.
  4. Click Save.

The following product statuses appear on the Handshake > Products page:

  • Published - the product is live in the Handshake marketplace and it is visible to retailers.
  • Pending - the product is ready to be published but you haven't published your Handshake supplier profile yet.
  • Unpublished - the product doesn't have all the necessary information completed or you removed the product from Handshake.

Manage product availability

When you add the Handshake sales channel to your Shopify store, by default all your products are set to be available in Handshake. If you want to change the availability, then you can adjust the product's availability in your Shopify admin. The Products page in Handshake provides you with an overview of all the products you add and allows you to edit the products individually or in bulk.
