Editing settings and transferring Shopify domains
On the Domains page in your Shopify admin, you can view and edit the DNS settings for your domain, or transfer your domain to another store or domain provider.
View or edit the DNS settings for a domain
You can view and edit the following DNS settings from the Domains section of your Shopify admin:
- A Record
- CNAME Record
- MX Record
- TXT Record
- AAAA Record
- SRV Record
The A record and CNAME record for your domain are automatically set to Shopify's default domain records. If you want to add MX, TXT, SRV, or AAAA records, then you can edit the DNS settings for your online store. You might need to edit these records if you're setting up a third-party email service on your domain, if you want to point a subdomain at another website, or if you need to verify your domain with a third-party service.
In the Shopify-managed domains section, click the name of the domain that you want to edit.
Click DNS Settings.
If you want to make changes, then you can edit the following DNS settings:
- To add a new record, click Add custom record, select the record type, and then enter and confirm the details.
- To change an existing record, click Actions > Edit beside the record, and then enter and confirm the details.
- To delete a record, click Actions > Remove, and then click Remove again to confirm.
Reset DNS settings
You can reset your DNS settings to Shopify's default configuration. This will delete all your records except Shopify's DNS and A records.
In the Shopify-managed domains section, click the name of the domain that you want to reset.
Click DNS Settings.
In the Advanced settings section, click Reset DNS settings.
Click Confirm to reset your DNS settings.
