Accelerated checkout buttons

The accelerated checkout button allows customers to proceed to checkout, directly from a product page to pay for that product. Customers can also use accelerated checkout buttons such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, to check out using the details attached to their chosen payment method.

Two example product pages showing accelerated checkout buttons. One page includes an unbranded button with Buy it now text. The other page includes a branded button with Buy with PayPal text.

Accelerated checkout buttons display with the Add to cart button on a product page. Customers can purchase only single variants of a product. For example, a customer can use an accelerated checkout button to purchase two large t-shirts, but they can't purchase a large t-shirt and a small t-shirt variant of the same product.

The kind of accelerated checkout button that displays to your customers depends on the following factors:

  • your payment settings
  • whether Shop Promise is active, which will prioritize Shop Pay over other checkouts
  • the customer's browser
  • the customer's device
  • the customer's personal payment history

There are two different types of accelerated checkout buttons:

  • Unbranded - These buttons display Buy it now text. When a customer clicks an unbranded button, they skip the cart and go to the Shopify Checkout.
  • Branded - These buttons include the logo for a third-party accelerated checkout method. When a customer clicks a branded button, they complete their payment with that accelerated checkout method. The following third-party accelerated checkout methods are available:

When you add accelerated checkout buttons to your online store, your options are to display or hide the accelerated checkout buttons, but you can't customize whether branded or unbranded accelerated checkout buttons display. The branded buttons display depending on payment methods that you've activated in your payment settings. If you don't have a third-party accelerated checkout method activated, then only the unbranded button is displayed. You can customize the color and fonts of your unbranded accelerated checkout buttons, but you can't customize the branded versions of the buttons.
