Static sections for Brooklyn

Brooklyn includes several static sections that appear in predetermined locations in your online store. These sections can't be removed or re-arranged. Static sections might include header, footer, or navigation sections. Your theme's header is the section that appears at the top of every page in your store.

With Brooklyn, you can add the following items to your header:

You can also change the color of your header links and icons.

If you want to enable the transparent header on your home page, you can select a separate logo and colors for your home page header.

You can add a custom logo to your store.

  1. Click Header.
  2. In the Logo image area, click Select image, and then do one of the following:

    • To select an image that you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
    • To select an image from your local computer, click Library > Upload.
  3. Use the Custom logo width slider to customize the logo width.

  4. Click Save.

Customize your navigation settings

You can customize the following navigation settings:

  • Search type - Set the style of the header search feature.
  • Menu - Set the menu that appears in the header.
  • Secondary sidebar menu - Add a secondary menu to your sidebar menu. A sidebar menu is shown instead of a header menu when the main menu takes up a lot of space. You can learn more in Tips for Brooklyn.
  • Enable search - Display a search bar on the sidebar menu.
  1. Click Header.
  2. In the Navigation area, adjust your navigation settings.
  3. Click Save.

Add an announcement bar

You can add an announcement bar in the header that you can use to show a message to your customers. Your message is customizable and might include contact information, information about store events or sales, or a store slogan.

  1. Click Header.

  2. In the Announcement bar area, check Show announcement.

    Select Home page only to display the announcement message on the home page only.

  3. Enter the text for your announcement.

  4. Optional: Enter a URL to add a link to your announcement.

  5. To change the color of the announcement bar background, click the Bar color swatch and choose a color.

  6. To change the color of the announcement text, click the Text color swatch and choose a color.

  7. Click Save.

  1. Click Header.
  2. Click the Links and icons color swatch and choose a color.
  3. Click Save.

Enable the transparent header

If you want to display your header logo and text over a slideshow on your home page, you can enable the transparent header. You should only select this option if the top section of your store is a slideshow.

  1. Click Header.
  2. In the Transparent header area, check Enable transparent header on the homepage.
  3. Optional: In the Transparent logo area, click Select image, and then do one of the following:
    • To select an image that you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
    • To select a stock image from Burst, click the Free images tab. From here you can enter a search term, or browse the image categories.
    • To select an image from your local computer, click the Library tab, and then click Upload.
  4. To change the color of the links and icons, click the Transparent header links and icons color swatch and choose a color.
  5. Click Save.

Your theme's footer is the section that appears at the bottom of every page in your store. You can add the following features to your footer:

  • payment icons
  • a language selector
  • a currency selector
  • a menu

Add payment icons

You can display icons for the payment methods that you accept in your footer. This area displays the icons that are associated with the payment provider that you have enabled in the payment settings section of your admin.

  1. Click Footer.

  2. Check Show payment icons.

  3. Click Save.

Add a menu

You can add a menu to your footer. This displays all the menu's links in your footer, which you can use to highlight common pages that your customers want to access. For example, you could add a menu that contains links to your contact page, shipping information page, and your Privacy policy.

  1. Click Footer.

  2. To select a menu, click Change. Select a menu from the list or click Create menu to create a new one.

  3. To edit the menu, click Edit menu.

  4. Click Save.

Add a language selector

You should only add a language selector if you have enabled multiple store languages.

  1. Click Sections.

  2. Click Footer.

  3. Under Language selector, select Show language selector.

  4. Click Save.

Add a currency selector

You should only add a currency selector if you have enabled multiple currencies.

  1. Click Footer.

  2. Under Currency selector, select Show currency selector.

  3. Click Save.
