Fraud protection

Fraud protection is a feature that uses fraud detection algorithms that analyses order risk and offers chargeback protection to help businesses.

You can use fraud protection to protect eligible orders against fraudulent chargebacks for free. If an eligible and protected order receives a fraudulent chargeback, then you're reimbursed the chargeback amount and the chargeback process is handled for you.

Overview

Fraud protection is currently in early access, and isn't available to all stores.

Only some orders are eligible for protection, such as orders that are paid with a credit card. If an order has a partial payment with another payment method, then that portion of the order isn't protected. For example, items paid with a gift card aren't protected.

You need to activate fraud protection on every order that you want to be protected. You receive the full cost of any fraudulent chargebacks. Other chargebacks aren't covered.

If you edit an order, then it's still protected, but fraud protection covers only the value of the items paid by an eligible payment method.

Protect an order

You need a tracking number to protect an order.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Orders.
  2. Click an order, and then click Protect order in the Fraud protection section of the order. If you don't have a Fraud protection section on the order, then the order isn't eligible for fraud protection.
  3. Enter the tracking number for the order, and then carefully review the fraud protection Terms of Service.
  4. Click Activate.
