Enabling Google Pay

Google Pay lets customers pay easily and securely through your online store using an accelerated checkout process. When a customer pays for their order by using Google Pay, they don't need to manually enter their credit card information or shipping address. The customer taps the Google Pay button and Google Pay provides that information to the payment provider. Learn more about accelerated checkouts.

Note

You don't pay any extra fees for accepting Google Pay. You continue to pay the normal processing fees associated with your payment provider.

Google Pay requirements

To activate the Google Pay button for your online store, you need to meet the following requirements:

• You need to use a credit card payment provider that lists Google Pay as an available payment method. You can use Shopify Payments with Google Pay in all regions except France, or you can search for Google Pay as a payment method in the list of third-party payment providers in Settings > Payments.
• Your store must adhere to the Google Pay API Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.

Activate Google Pay

Desktop

1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Payments.
2. In the section for your credit card payment provider, click Manage.
3. Select Google Pay in the Wallets section.
4. Click Save.

iPhone

1. From the Shopify app, tap the … button, and then tap Settings.
2. In the Store settings section, tap Payments.
3. In the section for your credit card payment provider, tap Manage.
4. Select Google Pay in the Wallets section.
5. Tap Save.

Android

1. From the Shopify app, tap the … button, and then tap Settings.
2. In the Store settings section, tap Payments.
3. In the section for your credit card payment provider, tap Manage.
4. Select Google Pay in the Wallets section.
5. Tap Save.

Google Pay customer experience

When a customer visits your online store, a button with the Google Pay logo displays.

If your customer has the Google Pay app installed, then they can tap the button to make a purchase with Google Pay. After they tap the button, their billing and shipping information displays. The customer then has to authenticate to conclude the purchase.

Troubleshooting

Google Pay not showing in the Shopify admin

You can use Shopify Payments with Google Pay in all regions except France, or you can search for Google Pay as a payment method in the list of third-party payment providers in Settings > Payments.

Tip

You can use the Payment methods menu on the Third-party payment providers page in your admin to filter available third-party payment providers by which payment methods are supported, including Google Pay.

Discounts not applied to purchases

If Google Pay isn't applying discounts, then check that a valid address was selected in the Google Pay window. For products that don't require a shipping address, such as digital products, Google won't apply the discount.
