MobilePay with Shopify Payments

MobilePay is a local payment method that requires your customer to authenticate their payment during checkout. When your customers choose to pay with MobilePay at checkout, they must authorize the payment using the MobilePay app, or their MobilePay account using a web browser.

Requirements when using MobilePay for Shopify Payments

Review the following requirements for using MobilePay with Shopify Payments:

  • You must set up Shopify Payments before you can activate MobilePay.
  • Your Shopify Payments account must be located in one of the following regions:
  • You must accept DKK, EUR, NOK, or SEK currency.
  • You must have an eligible business type to use MobilePay with Shopify Payments. Review the Shopify Payments Terms of Service to ensure your business type is eligible.
  • If you're using Shopify Payments in Norway, then you must have your tax identification number (TIN) added to your Shopify Payments account. To add or update your tax identification number to your Shopify Payments account, you need to contact Shopify Support.

Considerations when using MobilePay for Shopify Payments

Before offering MobilePay for Shopify Payments to your customers at checkout, review the following considerations:

  • Your customers must be located in Denmark or Finland and select DKK, EUR, NOK, or SEK currency to pay for their order. If your customer is in a different location or if they don't select an eligible currency, then the option to checkout using MobilePay isn't available.
  • When your customers pay for their orders using MobilePay, the funds are captured immediately and added to your next available payout.
  • You can issue full, or partial refunds for orders placed using MobilePay. These refunds are managed in the same way as Shopify Payments credit card or debit card refunds. Learn more about refunds with Shopify Payments.
  • Your customers can dispute a MobilePay transaction by contacting their bank. Disputed transactions are handled in the same manner as Shopify Payments transactions. Learn more about managing chargebacks with Shopify Payments.
  • Your customers can't pay for subscription products using MobilePay.

Charges when using MobilePay for Shopify Payments

When using MobilePay, you're charged 49 DKK per month. This charge is displayed on your Shopify bills in the Billing Section of your Shopify admin.

Activate MobilePay for Shopify Payments

You can activate MobilePay from the Payments section of your Shopify admin.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Payments.

  2. In the Shopify Payments section, click Manage.

  3. Click Manage payment methods.

  4. In the Local payment methods section, activate the MobilePay option.

Receiving payments with MobilePay for Shopify Payments

When a customer pays for their order using MobilePay, you can capture funds automatically. If you have manual capture activated on Shopify Payments, then you can capture only the full amount. You can't capture payment partially for an order placed with MobilePay. Learn more about capturing payments.

Customer experience

Customers can pay using MobilePay for Shopify Payments, only when they enter an address in Denmark or Finland, and they choose DKK, EUR, NOK, or SEK as their payment currency.

When paying at checkout using MobilePay for Shopify Payments, the customer's experience depends on the type of device they're using:

  • Mobile device: Customers that select MobilePay and tap Pay now at checkout on their mobile device, are redirected to either their MobilePay app or to a new browser window where they can log in and approve the payment using the Pay slider.
  • Desktop device: Customers that select MobilePay and click Pay now at checkout on their desktop device are asked to enter the phone number associated with their MobilePay account. The customer can then open their MobilePay app, or log into their MobilePay account with a web browser to authorize the payment using the Pay slider.
