Considerations when using Swish for Shopify Payments

Before offering Swish for Shopify Payments to your customers at checkout, review the following considerations:

  • Your customers must be based in Sweden and select SEK as the currency to pay for their order. If your customer is in a different location or if they don't select an eligible currency, then the option to checkout using Swish isn't available.
  • When your customers pay for their order using Swish, the funds are captured immediately and added to your next available payout.
  • You can process full or partial refunds on orders that are placed using Swish. These refunds are managed in the same way as Shopify Payments credit card or debit card refunds. Learn more about refunds with Shopify Payments.
  • Customers can’t place chargebacks on orders paid for using Swish.
  • Customers can’t pay for subscription products using Swish.

  1. In the Verify your identity dialog, click Start.
  2. Review the terms and conditions, and then click Agree and continue.
  3. Perform one of the following actions:
    1. Scan the QR code using your Swish mobile app or Swedish BankID app.
    2. Click More options to request an email with a link that you can open on a mobile device to complete the verification process.
  4. Scan the front and back of your identification card, and then tap Submit photo.
  5. On the Verify with a selfie dialog, click Continue.
  6. If your verification is submitted, then click Done.

If your verification isn’t submitted successfully, then you must begin the process again.

Customer experience when paying with Swish

Your customers can pay using Swish, only when they're based in Sweden and choose to pay in SEK at checkout. Customers must use either their Swish mobile app, or their Swedish BankID app to scan the QR code at checkout. The QR code isn’t recognized by the default camera app on mobile devices.

When paying at checkout using Swish, the customer’s experience depends on the type of device that they're using:

  • Mobile: Customers that select Swish and tap Pay now at checkout on their mobile device, are redirected to either their Swish mobile app, or their Swedish BankID app, to approve the payment by entering their security code.
  • Desktop: Customers that select Swish and click Pay now at checkout on their desktop device are presented with a new window that displays a QR code. The customer must scan the QR code using their Swish mobile app and then authorize the payment by tapping Pay. They can also use their Swedish BankID app and enter their security code to authorize the payment.
