Adding a currency selector

Your customers can choose their preferred currency from a dropdown list of currencies if you add a currency selector to your theme. Currency selectors are built in to some themes or can be added through the Geolocation app. The Geolocation app also allows you to prompt customers to switch to local currency based on their IP address.

Update your theme to add a currency selector

If you're using the most recent version of the Debut or Brooklyn theme on your store, then you'll automatically get a currency selector on your storefront. You can update your theme to get the latest version.

App recommendation

If you are on the Shopify Plus plan, then your store will automatically set your customers' currency based on their IP. If you are on another plan level, then you can give customers the option to switch to their local currency by using the free Geolocation appby Shopify. The Geolocation app makes language and currency recommendations to your customers based on their geographic location, and browser or device language. The Geolocation app also adds a selector in the footer of your online store that allows your customers to choose their language and currency.

Currency selection through a URL

After you've enabled selling in multiple currencies with Shopify Payments, your customers can check out in their local currency.

You can also send your customers a URL that will open your store in a specific currency by adding an ISO code currency code to the end of it. For example, the following link opens the store and shows all the prices in Canadian dollars: myshopify-store.myshopify.com?currency=CAD.

Add a currency selector to your store's navigation menu

You can update your storefront to include a currency selector in the footer or main menu of your theme without needing to customize your theme code.

Edit your theme code to add a currency selector

If you want to edit your theme code so that customers can choose their currency, then you can use Shopify Liquid to create currency selectors in your storefront. This is an advanced tutorial. Edit your theme code only if you have coding experience.
