Reapplying for Shopify Payments

If your Shopify Payments application was rejected, then you might be eligible to reapply after you meet certain requirements. While meeting these requirements doesn't guarantee approval, following the guidelines can improve your chances of reconsideration.

Requirements for reapplication

To be considered for reapplication, you need to meet the following requirements.

Processing history

You must process payments with a third-party payment gateway for 6-12 consecutive months after your rejection. This history helps demonstrate your reliability as a merchant.

Chargeback management

Your chargeback rate must remain below 1% during the 6-12 month period. You might need to provide proof of this rate from your third-party gateway during the review process.

Order fulfillment

To be eligible for reconsideration, you must meet the following order fulfillment requirements:

  • You must fulfill all your orders promptly.
  • You must include tracking information for all shipments you send.
  • You must meet the advised fulfillment timeframes.
  • You must maintain clear communication with your customers.

Account standing

To be eligible for reconsideration, you must meet the following account standing requirements:

  • All pending balances are cleared
  • There are no negative balances on your account
  • Your store complies with Shopify's Terms of Service

  1. Locate the email sent to the account owner's email address that notifies you about your Shopify Payments rejection status.
  2. Follow instructions provided in the email to submit the appeal form.
  3. If there is no appeal form included in the email, then respond directly to the email explaining your situation.
  4. If you can't find the email, then reach out to Shopify Support to have the email resent.

Important considerations for reapplication

Reserve requirements

If your reapplication is approved, Shopify might place a reserve on your account as a precautionary measure. Learn more about account reserves.

No guarantee of approval

Meeting the reapplication requirements doesn't guarantee approval for Shopify Payments. Each case is reviewed individually based on multiple factors, including:

  • Processing history
  • Business model
  • Product category
  • Overall risk assessment

While waiting for review

While your reapplication is under review:

  • Continue using your current payment provider
  • Maintain good business practices
  • Keep all documentation current
  • Monitor your email for requests from Shopify
