Create a new data exploration

Creating a new data exploration is available to merchants on all Shopify plans. Using the new Shopify Analytics, you can create a custom report in the following ways:

  • Build a custom report from an empty exploration state.
  • Modify an existing default report.

Create a new custom report from an empty state

You can create a new report from any of the following places in the Shopify admin:

  • In Analytics > Reports, click New exploration.
  • When customizing the Analytics dashboard, click New exploration in the dashboard library.

Creating a new report begins an empty data exploration. You must add at least 1 metric to begin your data exploration.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Analytics > Reports.
  2. Click New exploration.
  3. From the configuration panel, in the Metrics menu, click to add the first metric to your exploration.
  4. Use the configuration panel to add additional metrics, dimensions, a comparison, and filters to display the information that you want. You can also click the Visualization menu to select a different visualization for your data.
  5. After you create your report, click Save.

Create a custom report by modifying an existing default report

If you modify a default report authored by Shopify, then it's considered a custom report.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Analytics > Reports.
  2. Click the name of the default report that you want to customize.
  3. Use the configuration panel to add or remove metrics, dimensions, a comparison, and filters to display the information that you want. You can also click the Visualization menu to select a different visualization for your data.
  4. After you modify your report, click Save as.
  5. In the Save copy as new report dialog, give your custom report a name, and then click Save copy.
