Changing the Shopify POS smart grid
The home screen on the Shopify POS app has a smart grid that contains a set of configurable tiles that display different resources. You can add tiles representing frequently accessed products, collections, third-party apps, or features. If a third-party app has multiple functions, then you can choose which function the tile performs.
You can add additional pages, group tiles into these pages, and reorder tile positions on each page.
You can edit the smart grid for a POS location from the Shopify POS app on a mobile device, or you can create and manage smart grid templates for multiple locations from the Shopify admin on a desktop device.

Changing your smart grid from the Shopify POS app
You can edit the smart grid from the Shopify POS app. Changes made to the smart grid from the POS app apply only to the POS location that's logged in to the app.
From the Shopify POS app, you can make the following customizations to the smart grid:
You can't change the font size or style on smart grid tiles.
To modify the smart grid from the Shopify POS app, you need to be the store owner or have a POS staff account with the Customize smart grid permission.
Add tiles to your smart grid
- On the home screen of the Shopify POS app, tap Add tile within the grid.
- Select the item that you want to add to your home page from the available list.
- Add any additional tiles and then tap Save.
Edit tile icon colors on the smart grid
- On the home screen of the Shopify POS app, tap and hold a tile until it begins to shake.
- Double tap
on the corner of the tile, and then select the color, such as purple, pink, blue, or orange.
- Tap Save.
Reorder tiles on the smart grid
- On the home screen of the Shopify POS app, tap and hold a tile until it begins to shake.
- Tap and hold the tile, and then drag the tile to a new location on the page. Tiles in the surrounding area rearrange themselves to accommodate the moving tile.
- Tap Save.
Delete tiles from the smart grid
- On the home screen of the Shopify POS app, tap and hold a tile until it begins to shake.
- Double tap
X
on the corner of the tile, and then tap Remove. - Tap Save.
Add a tile page to the smart grid
- On the home screen of the Shopify POS app, swipe as far to the right as possible.
- On the empty tile page, tap Add new tile to add your first tile to create a new tile page.
- Add any additional tiles, and then tap Save.
Empty tile pages are removed from the tile page list.
Reset your smart grid on the Shopify POS app
You can reset the smart grid to the default template for the POS location at any time. Resetting the smart grid can't be undone.
Steps:
- On the home screen of the Shopify POS app, tap
> Settings.
- In the Home section, tap Reset smart grid.
- Tap Reset to confirm.
Lock smart grid editing on the Shopify POS app
You can lock the smart grid from being edited from the Shopify POS app to prevent any accidental adjustments to the current smart grid layout.
Steps:
- On the home screen of the Shopify POS app, tap
> Settings.
- In the Home section, tap Lock smart grid editing to activate the lock.
You can deactivate the editing lock at any time.
Creating and managing smart grid templates for multiple POS locations
You can create and manage multiple smart grid templates in the Shopify admin. This is useful for when you want multiple POS locations to have the same smart grid template, and want to save time from having to customize the smart grid for each location manually from the Shopify POS app. You can create and customize multiple smart grid templates using the smart grid editor, and then assign each template to specific POS locations.
One smart grid template is assigned as the Default template, and applies to all new POS locations and POS locations when their assigned template is deleted. You can change which template is the default layout at any time.
