Requirements and limitations for the POS Go
Before you use the POS Go for Shopify POS review make sure you meet the geographical and payments-related requirements and limitations.
Requirements for the POS Go
To use the POS Go, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Your store is in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Italy, New Zealand, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Spain, Germany, or Finland.
- You have Shopify Payments activated as your retail store's payment provider and have test mode turned off. This means you can't use a third-party gateway such as Authorize.net.
- Your physical retail locations are based in the same country that your store is based in.
- You have a WPA2 Wi-Fi network.
Limitations for the POS Go
Review the following limitations for the POS Go for Shopify POS:
- Third-party payment gateways aren't supported. An example of a third-party gateway is Authorize.net.
- Wi-Fi printer set up isn't supported. You need to set up your Wi-Fi printer using a different device and then you can connect it to your POS Go.
- Unsecured Wi-Fi networks aren't supported.
- Internet browsing and app downloading aren't supported.
- SIM cards aren't supported.
- POS Go's USB-C port is exclusively for charging. Other USB-based devices aren't supported.
- Google TalkBack is unavailable.
- POS GO's MAC address isn't exposed. If you want to connect to a private network, then you need to connect to a hotspot from another device.
- POS Go doesn't receive updates or sync with the store when the screen is locked. A user must log in to the POS Go using a PIN to receive updates or to sync with the store.
Supported payment types for the POS Go
The POS Go built-in card reader supports tap, chip, and swipe payments for the following payment types:
- Visa and Visa Debit
- Mastercard and Debit Mastercard
- American Express
- Discover (only for locations in United States, Canada, and United Kingdom)
- Diners Club (only for locations in United States, Canada, and United Kingdom)
- JCB (only for locations in United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand)
- Union Pay (only for locations in United States and Canada)
- eftpos (Australia only)
- Interac (Canada only)
Most national debit cards such as Interac, girocard, or eftpos cards that are co-badged with Visa or Mastercard can process payments outside the card issuer's country using Visa and Mastercard. Some co-badged debit cards that don't process payments through Mastercard or Visa might not work outside the card issuer's country.
On hardware that supports contactless payments, customers might also present any supported card brand that they've loaded on a digital wallet such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay.
Compatible hardware for the POS Go
The POS Go is compatible with secure pin Wi-Fi or wired LAN receipt printers. Bluetooth isn't supported. Review the list of supported receipt printers. Learn more about setting up a Wi-Fi receipt printer.
