For an explanation of how to load the receipt printer, refer to the guide in the manufacturer's hardware manual.
Plug in your Wi-Fi printer
Connect your printer to the power supply.
Steps:
- Plug one end of the power cable into the back of your receipt printer.
- Plug the other end of the cable into a power outlet and turn the printer on.
If paper is loaded, then a diagnostic report prints.
Installation and setup
- Connect your printer to the power supply.
- If your printer has already been set up for another Wi-Fi network, then initialize the printer's network settings. Ensure that your printer and the POS device are both on a 2.4 GHz network. The printer can only connect to a 2.4 GHz network.
- In the Shopify POS app, tap More > Settings > Set up hardware.
- Tap Receipt printer > Star Micronics > Wi-Fi.
- Tap Allow location access.
- Tap to allow Shopify POS to use your location.

- Make sure you have loaded paper into the printer and tap Next step.
- In your iPad's Wi-Fi settings, connect to the receipt printer.
- Return to the Shopify POS app and log back into the app. When Shopify POS has found the printer, tap Complete Wi-Fi details. If this option isn't displayed, then you might need to repeat steps 1 to 11.
- Tap Select to choose the type of network security that your Wi-Fi network uses and then tap Save.
- Enter the password for your Wi-Fi network and then tap Done.
- Tap Connect and then Done.
Confirm that your printer displays as connected under Receipt Printers.
After connecting your printer, don't forget to:
- Set it as the default printer (optional)
- Print a test receipt
- Test the connection to the cash drawer (if applicable)
Initialize the printer network settings
If you want to connect your printer to a new Wi-Fi network, then initialize the printer's network settings.

- Press and hold the RST button at the same time that you turn the printer on.
- Hold the RST button until the printer resets twice. When the device resets, it makes an internal operation noise.

Troubleshooting your TSP143IIIW printer
If your TSP143IIIW printer stops working, follow these steps to troubleshoot your printer:
- Make sure that your printer's Wi-Fi connection is set up correctly.
- Confirm that you are connected to the internet. Your printer requires an internet signal to run properly.
- Confirm that your printer displays on the Hardware screen in the Shopify POS app. If the printer is improperly connected, then it displays on the settings screen or it displays as "Disconnected".
- Try turning your printer off and then on. This restarts your printer and usually fixes any issue on the printer's end.
- If the previous steps haven't resolved your issue, then debug your printer:
- Turn your printer off and press and hold the FEED button. At the same time, and still holding the FEED button, turn the printer back on.
- Let the printer print off the firmware information and then let go of the feed button. The printer tries to connect to the internet and then continue to print off more diagnostic information. Review the following troubleshooting steps that match the error text displayed:
- The IP address under "Current IP Parameters Status" displays zeroes: First, turn off the printer, wait five seconds, and then turn it back on. Try the debug process again. If that doesn't work, then confirm that you've followed the printer installation and setup instructions. Make sure that your printer is plugged in and connected to your wireless network. Finally, if none of the above solutions work, contact your internet provider. It could be a problem with your internet setup.
- I see a "No Host Connection" message: This usually happens when you lose your internet connection or when your printer isn't connected to your router properly. Check your internet signal and wireless router.
If the ERROR indicator is blinking red
This is caused when there is no paper present in the printer. Open the printer, replace the paper, and close the lid. The ERROR indicator should turn off and the READY indicator should come on.
Paper jams
If you feed the paper into the receipt printer at an angle, then a paper jam is likely to happen. If this happens, then turn off the printer, open it up, and feed the paper in again.
If you are trying to make your receipt narrower than the specified 3 inch width, then make sure you use the divider provided. Don't fold the paper when you feed it into the printer.
Customize receipts
You can customize both the basic receipt layout and the transaction description.
Limitations when using the Star Micronics TSP143IIIW receipt printer
