Customer View app

The Customer View app lets you use an Android device as a customer-facing display for Shopify POS. During checkout, the customer view displays the following information about the customer's cart:

  • name, quantity, and price of line items
  • customer name and email (optional)
  • discounts
  • taxes
  • order total and subtotal
  • order receipt

The Android device running the Customer View app is paired with your Shopify POS device through your Wi-Fi network. Make sure that both devices are connected to the same wifi network and wifi band (2.4GHz or 5GHz).

Device requirements

Your Android device must meet the following requirements:

  • Android version 5.0 or higher
  • 7 to 8 inch tablet
  • Have access to the Google Play store.

Pair Shopify POS and Customer View

You need to pair the Shopify POS device with the Customer View device every time that you restart one of the devices.

Steps:

  1. From Shopify POS, tap > Settings.

  2. Tap Set up hardware.

  3. On the Set up hardware page, tap Customer view to display the pairing QR code.

  4. In the Customer View app, tap Pair with POS.

  5. Scan the QR code on the Shopify POS device. When pairing is complete, Connected displays on both apps.

  6. In the customer view, tap Pin app if you want to prevent customers from closing the Customer View app. Hold the back and overview buttons on your Android device to unpin the Customer View app.

Customize the Customer View app

You can customize the Customer View app from Shopify POS.

  • Choose the message that is displayed on your customer view when no transaction is in progress.

    You can choose to display the default welcome message or a custom message. The default message is "Welcome to" and your shop name. An example of a custom message might be "Winter sale 40% off".

  • Enable or disable email capture.

    When email capture is enabled, customers see an option to sign-up for emails whenever the custom message or welcome message is displayed.

Steps:

  1. From Shopify POS, tap > Settings.

  2. Tap Customer View.

  3. Edit the default display:

    • To enter a customized message, tap Edit welcome message.
    • To enable or disable email capture, toggle the email capture checkbox.

Disconnect the Customer View from Shopify POS

You can disconnect the Customer View from Shopify POS at any time.

  1. From Shopify POS, tap > Settings.

  2. Tap Customer View.

  3. Tap Forget Customer view.

Using the Customer View app

When the Customer View app is paired with Shopify POS, it displays checkout information for any order that is being processed using the paired Shopify POS device. When the checkout is complete, the customer selects how they want to receive their receipt:

  • email
  • text
  • printed (iPad only)
  • no receipt

Troubleshooting

If you're experiencing connectivity problems between Shopify POS and the Customer View app, then follow these steps.

Steps:

  1. Close Shopify POS and the Customer View app.

  2. Open Shopify POS and tap > Settings.

  3. Tap Set up hardware.

  4. On the Set up hardware page, tap Customer view.

  5. If the Customer View app is still showing as connected, then tap the - button beside Customer View to disconnect it.

  6. If the Customer View app is disconnecting from the Wi-Fi network, then turn off power-save mode.

  7. Open the Customer View app and pair it with Shopify POS.

  8. If the Customer view app is still not connecting, then contact Shopify Support.
