Make a custom sale in Shopify POS

You can use a custom sale item to enter any additional price for a transaction. Custom sale items are ideal for selling an item that you haven't already added as a product in your Shopify admin or Shopify POS as a permanently available item.

Custom sale items can include small add-ons or surcharges for unique circumstances. For example, if you sell paintings, but your in-person customer wants to purchase the display easel as well as the painting itself, then you can sell the customer the painting as per usual, and add the agreed-upon cost of the easel as a custom sale item.

Tip

Custom sale items don't display the same way as a regular product sale does in a report. Unlike regular products, a custom sale item's Product title, Product vendor, and Product type values are all None. If you choose to assign a title to the custom sale item before adding it to the cart, then the title is the Product title at time of sale value. If you choose not to assign a title to the custom sale item, then the Product title at time of sale value defaults to Custom sale.

Steps:

iOS

1. On the Shopify POS screen, tap Add custom sale.
2. Enter an optional title for the sale and the sale price. You can also adjust quantities or if the item is taxed.
3. Tap Add to cart to continue with the transaction, or tap Cancel if you want to discard the custom sale item and return to the main Shopify POS products screen.

Android

1. On the Shopify POS screen, tap Add custom sale.
2. Enter an optional title for the sale and the sale price. You can also adjust quantities or if the item is taxed, if necessary.
3. Tap Add to cart to continue with the transaction, or tap Cancel if you want to discard the custom sale item and return to the main Shopify POS products screen.
