Inventory management
A product's inventory is the quantity of a particular product that is available for sale in your store.
Managing your inventory can help you in the following ways:
- Avoiding selling more stock than you have
- Pinpointing when you need to order or make more of your product
- Identifying when you have too much stock
If you use Shopify POS Pro, then you can install Stocky and activate the Stocky POS UI extensions to manage your inventory when using Shopify POS.
On the Inventory page in your Shopify admin, you can view your inventory, adjust your inventory counts, and create inventory transfers. You can also view the history of inventory adjustments for products and variants whose inventory is being tracked by Shopify. You can activate inventory tracking for a product on its details page in your Shopify admin.
If you use Shopify POS at more than one address, then you can set the current location of your Shopify POS device. This makes sure that you apply the right taxes to your orders and that you can track which orders are placed at each physical location. The selected location’s inventory count is updated whenever a product is sold or restocked on Shopify POS.
It's recommended to update your inventory quantities when your retail outlets are closed and when you're not having big online sales events. You can do a physical count of your inventory at each location and record that data to ensure your inventory quantities are correct in Shopify.
If you have a small number of locations and products, then update the quantities on the Inventory page.
If you have a large number of locations and products, then use the bulk editor, or use CSV file exports and imports.
