Using customer profiles in Shopify POS

With Shopify POS you can create profiles for your customers to save their name and contact details. Recording customer contact details is especially useful for sending receipts by email, and for broadening your customer base for email marketing campaigns.

Create a customer profile

If a customer has not purchased from you before, then you can create a customer profile for them from the Cart section of the products and cart screen. By default, the new customer is associated with the current cart, but you can disable this option from the Create customer modal.

Steps:

  1. In the Cart section of the products and cart screen, tap Add customer.

  2. Tap Create customer:

  3. Enter the customer's details. You need to enter at least a name and an email address for the customer.

  4. Optional: To save the customer's details without adding the customer to the cart, disable Add customer to cart:

  5. When you've completed all the necessary fields (at least a name and an email address), tap Save.

Associate an existing customer with a cart

Shopify POS saves customer details, so if a customer purchases from you again, then you can quickly associate them with the order.

To associate a past customer with an order:

  1. In the Cart section of the products and cart screen, tap Add customer.
  2. Choose one of your existing customers by doing one of the following:
    • Tap the customer's name in the list of existing customers.
    • Begin to enter a customer's name in the search box, and then tap the full name when it appears.

Edit an existing customer

You can edit an existing customer's information.

Steps:

  1. In the Cart section of the products and cart screen, tap Add customer:

  2. Add an existing customer in one of the following ways:

    • Tap a customer's name in the list of existing customers.
    • Enter a customer's name in the search box, and then tap their name when it appears in the search results.
  3. Tap the added customer on the Cart screen:

  4. In the Edit customer modal, you can edit the following customer information:

    • their first name
    • their last name
    • their company
    • their email address
    • notes added to their profile
    • whether the customer has agreed to receive marketing emails or newsletters
    • whether the customer should be exempt from all taxes
    • their shipping address
  5. Tap Save to save your changes:

Remove a customer's details from the cart

You can remove a customer's details from the cart.

Steps:

  1. Swipe the customer's name left to show a Delete button:

  2. Tap Delete to remove the customer from the cart.

Edit an existing customer

Remove a customer's details from the cart

You can remove a customer's details from an order.

Steps:

  1. From the Cart screen, swipe the customer's name left to show a Delete button:

Remove a customer's details from the cart

After you add a customer profile to a cart, you can remove it by tapping the x beside the customer's name:
