Editing your shipping zones for local delivery

You can create local shipping rates available only to customers within a state or province, such as local delivery or a "pick up in store" rate.

Create a local delivery shipping rate

To create a local delivery shipping rate, you first have to remove the province or state from the shipping zone, and then create a new shipping zone that includes only the province or state. After you create the new shipping zone, add all the previous shipping rates and the new local delivery rate.

You can create multiple local delivery rates within a province or state by specifying the region of the delivery in the title of the shipping rate. For example,Local delivery - Houston or Free Toronto delivery for postal codes starting with M4, M5, M6, and M8. Any customer within the province or state can still select this option, so if a customer outside your intended region chooses the method, you'll need to contact the customer.

Remove the region

If your province or state where you want to offer local delivery methods is already in a shipping zone, then you need to remove it. If it isn't already in a shipping zone, then go to Create the shipping zone and rates.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.

  2. Beside the shipping profile that you want to edit, click Manage.

  3. In the location group that you want to offer a local rate for, click ..., and then click Edit zone.

  4. Beside the country that contains the province or state, click X of X provinces/states.

  5. Deselect the province or state where you want to offer a local shipping rate, then click Done. Don't click Save. If you click Save, then customers in the state or province that you removed can't place orders.

Create the shipping zone and rates

  1. If you didn't remove the shipping region in the steps above, then go to the shipping profile that you want to edit:

    1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
    2. In the Shipping section, click the shipping profile that you want to edit.
  2. Create a shipping zone and include the province or state where you want to offer local shipping options:

    1. In the location group that you want to offer a local rate for, click Create shipping zone.
    2. Enter a name for the zone.
    3. Search for the country, and click X of X provinces/states. If there is no province or state drop-down list, then that region does not support state or province-based rates.
    4. Select the province or state.
    5. Click Done. Don't click Save. If you click Save, then customers in the state or province that you removed can't place orders.
  3. Recreate each shipping rate that's offered in the original shipping zone:

    1. In the shipping zone with the single state or province, click Add rate.
    2. Enter the details of the rate, then click Done.
  4. Create each local shipping rate that you want to offer in the new shipping zone:

    1. In the shipping zone with the single state or province, click Add rate.
    2. Enter a name for the rate that describes the city or region where you want to offer local delivery. For example, Local delivery - Toronto.
    3. Enter a price for the rate.
    4. Optional: Click Add conditions to require a certain weight or price for the shipping rate.
    5. Click Done.
  5. Click Save.

Add a local delivery shipping rate app

Shipping rate apps can provide further rules about when certain shipping rates are shown. For example, some shipping rate apps can show shipping rates that are available only to customers in certain zip or postal codes.

If the app is paid, then you need to be logged in as the account owner to install the app.
