Assigning service levels to your international shipping rates for Shopify Fulfillment Network (Canada)
To make sure that Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN) fulfillment centers know which shipping speed, or service level, to choose when processing your fulfillment requests, you can assign your shipping rates to specific service levels. You can specify which shipping rates use economy, standard, or express shipping. This helps make sure that your orders are delivered within the delivery expectations that you set for your customers.
Before you assign service levels to your shipping rates your rates, make sure that you set up your shipping rates to work with SFN.
SFN shipping service levels from Canadian fulfillment centers
SFN offers several service levels for orders that are shipped from fulfillment centers in Canada. The service level is based on the number of business days, excluding holidays, that it takes for your shipment to be delivered after SFN processes your fulfillment request.
You can assign your domestic shipping rates to the following service levels.
Service level | Delivery duration |
---|---|
Express shipment | 2 business days |
Standard shipment | 3 business days |
Economy shipment | 5-7 business days |
You can assign your international shipping rates to the following service levels.
Service level | Delivery duration |
---|---|
Fast shipment | 6 to 28 business days |
Slow shipment | 7 to 29 business days |
When selecting a delivery method for your fulfillment, SFN selects a carrier and service that meets the expected delivery date for the assigned service level. The carrier name might not match the service level or indicate the speed of the delivery. For example, an Express shipment might not have “Express” in its name, but your shipment is expected to be delivered in 2 days.
Before you begin assigning service levels to your shipping rates
Before you assign service levels to your shipping rates, review the following considerations:
Set up your shipping
Make sure that you set up your shipping rates to work with SFN. Carrier-calculated shipping rates aren't supported by SFN.
For more information on the types of shipping rates, refer to Shipping rates.
Free shipping rates
If you provide free shipping to your customers, then consider creating shipping zones that match which fulfillment centers your products are fulfilled from. This way, you can provide free shipping rates to all zones, but assign them to different shipping speeds.
For example, suppose that you stock products in Ontario. You can create a shipping zone with provinces near to Ontario, such as Quebec, and create a free shipping rate that's assigned to Express for 1 - 2 day shipping. You can also create a shipping zone with provinces that are further away, such as British Columbia, and create a free shipping rate that's assigned to to Standard or Economy.
Shipping rate names
Rates that have the same name are assigned to the same service level. For example, if you have different free shipping rates in separate zones, then make sure that they have different shipping rate names, otherwise they will all be assigned the same service level. To change the name of your shipping rates, refer to Edit a rate.
Rates that aren't assigned to a service level
If a shipping rate isn't assigned to a service level, then it defaults to Economy.
Assign service levels to your shipping rates
Make sure that your shipping rates names are finalized before you assign them to service levels. If you need to change the name of a shipping rate while assigning service levels, then change the name of the rate in your Shopify admin shipping settings, and then assign the service level in your Shopify Fulfillment Network app.
For more information about editing the names of your shipping rates, refer to Edit a rate.
