Searching your Shopify admin

You can use the search bar from any page of the Shopify admin to find apps, customers, orders, products, sales channels, and other information within your Shopify admin. You can access the search bar from your Shopify admin on desktop, or from the toolbar of the Shopify app.

You can filter your search results to make the results more relevant to your search.

Searching your admin

The search bar lists your most recent searches, and you can filter your results to display specific types of information.

You can search your Shopify admin by doing the following actions, depending on your device.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. To start your search on a desktop device, click the search bar, or press Ctrl + K on a PC, or Command + K on a Mac, to open the search function.
  2. Input some search keywords to being your search. Search results display a maximum of 7 items.
  3. Optional: If there are more than 7 results for your search, then click Show # more to list up to 20 additional results at a time.
  4. Optional: Two additional links display at the bottom of the search results that allow you to open the Shopify App Store or Sidekick to search for results.
Mobile app
  1. To start your search from the Shopify app, tap the search icon in the Shopify app navigation section to open the search bar. You can also search your products, orders, and customers pages by tapping the search icon on the related page to open the search bar.
  2. Input some search keywords to being your search. You can also tap the Barcode Scan icon to use your device's camera to scan a barcode.
  3. Optional: Two additional links display at the bottom of the search results that allow you to open the Shopify App Store or the Help Center to search for results.

If your search results list is too large or irrelevant, then consider applying filters to your search.

Filter your search results

You can filter your search results by category, such as Orders or Apps, to help you find a more relevant list of results. Based on your search keywords, suggested filters can display at the top of the search results list, including the number of total results within that category. These filters update as you continue to input your search.

You can filter your search results by doing the following actions, depending on your device.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. When you open the search bar, the following 5 filters are featured by default:
    • Apps
    • Customers
    • Orders
    • Products
    • Sales channels
  2. At any time, click the Filter icon in the top search bar to select from the complete list of available search categories.
  3. Click a filter to apply it to your search. You can also add / to your search to being typing the name of a filter to apply to your search. Click the X to remove the filter from your search.
Mobile app
  1. When you open the search bar, the following 4 filters are featured by default:
    • All
    • Orders
    • Products
    • Customers
  2. You can tap Filter All filters to select additional filters. Any additional filters will remain accessible in the filter bar until you close the Shopify app.
  3. Tap a filter to apply it to your search. Tap All to reset your search back to display all results.

Search for apps and sales channels

In the search bar, you can click the Apps or Sales channels button to narrow your search. The search button lists all installed sales channels and apps. Click or tap any sales channel or app to open the page for that item.

The search bar includes recommendations for apps or channels you might want to consider installing.

To view recommended sales channels, click the Recommended sales channels button. Click any sales channel for more information.

To view recommended apps, click the Recommended apps button. Click any app for more information.

Search your settings

In the Settings section of your Shopify admin, and in the Shopify app, you can use the search functionality to find a setting that you're looking for.

You can search within all your settings pages. When you select a search result, and when possible, the settings content that you search for is temporarily highlighted on the page.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.

  2. In the Search field in the sidebar, enter your search term.

  3. From the list that's displayed, click the search result that you want to view.

  4. Optional: To return to the Settings navigation menu from the search results list, or to enter a new search term, click the X icon.

Mobile app
  1. From the Shopify app, tap the Menu icon.

  2. Tap Settings.

  3. In the Search settings field, enter your search term.

  4. From the list that's displayed, tap the search result that you want to view.

  5. Optional: To return to the Settings navigation menu from the search results list, or to enter a new search term, tap the X icon.

Clear your Shopify admin search history

Your recent searches are maintained in a search history, which you can clear at any time. Your search history is local to your device, and can't be accessed by other staff members using different logins to your store.

Steps:

Desktop
  1. From your Shopify admin, click Search to open the search bar.
  2. Click Clear history.
Mobile app

From the Shopify app, tap the Search icon

  1. Tap Clear.
