Getting started with Sidekick

You can interact with Sidekick through a chat interface in the Shopify admin on desktop devices. You can access Sidekick from any page of the Shopify admin by clicking the Sidekick icon in the top navigation bar and then chatting with Sidekick by asking a question or giving an instruction:

Requirements

In order to be eligible to use Sidekick, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You access the Shopify admin on a desktop computer. Sidekick isn't available on mobile devices.
  • Your account language must be set to English.
  • Your store must have access to the new Shopify Analytics, but you aren't required to have opted-in.

Using Sidekick

Sidekick is accessible from any page of your Shopify admin. You can communicate with Sidekick as if you would chat with another human.

Sidekick saves your chat during a browser session, but doesn’t store your chat history when you close your browser. If you close your browser session, then your chat history with Sidekick resets. At any time, you can click the new chat icon to manually clear the existing chat history in Sidekick's chat interface and start a new chat: Icon of chat speech bubble with plus symbol in lower-right corner.

Steps:

  1. Log in to your Shopify admin.
  2. Click the Sidekick icon to open Sidekick's chat interface.
  3. Interact with Sidekick in any of the following ways:
    • Click any of the example prompts that display in the chat window.
    • In the Ask anything... field, type a command or question in plain language, and then click the paper airplane icon to submit your command or question.
  4. Depending on the type of response that you receive from Sidekick, you might need to click an additional button:
    • Click the > button to navigate to the indicated page or resource.
    • Click Apply to apply the generated content to your store.
  5. Optional: To regenerate a new response from Sidekick, click to try again.
  6. Optional: Click the thumbs-up or thumbs-down icon below the response to deliver feedback about the quality of Sidekick's response.
