Shopify admin overview

Depending on the device you're using, you can do different things in your admin. If you log in to your Shopify admin from a browser, then you can manage all aspects of your store. If you log in to the Shopify app from your phone, then you can view your store's recent activity, update your store's catalog, and manage your orders.

Shopify admin

When you log in to your Shopify admin, the first thing that you see is the Home page.

Shopify Home shows information about daily tasks, your store’s recent activity, and the next steps you can take to build your business.

You can access the different sections of the Shopify admin by using the sidebar. Sections of the Shopify admin include:

You can use the search bar to find sales channels, apps, products, pages, or other information within your Shopify admin. The search bar is at the top of your Shopify admin. Click the search bar, or press ctrl + K on a PC or command + K on a Mac to jump directly to the search bar. You can also open search with a filter already applied by pressing o+a to search with the Apps filter pre-selected, or o+c to search with the channels filter. Search can be used from anywhere within your Shopify admin.

The search bar lists your most recent searches, and has two clickable buttons: apps and sales channels.

Search apps and sales channels

In the search bar, you can click the Apps* or **Sales channels button to narrow your search. The search button lists all installed sales channels and apps. Click any sales channel or app to open the page for that item.

The search bar includes recommendations for apps or channels you might want to consider installing.

To view recommended sales channels, click the Recommended sales channels button. Click any sales channel for more information.

To view recommended apps, click the Recommended apps button. Click any app for more information.

Apps and Channels

Your apps and sales channels are located in the sidebar of your Shopify admin. Items in this area include:

  • Sales channels, including Online Store, Point of Sale, and Buy Button
  • Apps installed on your account
  • The Shop sales channel

If you have accounts in more than one Shopify store, then you can use the dropdown to navigate to those stores.

Pinning apps and channels

You can "pin" your favorite apps and channels. A pinned app is added to the bottom of the item list (for example, sales channels or apps), and always appears in that list for quick navigation. You can rearrange your pinned apps and channels by clicking and dragging an item to a new position in the corresponding list.

To pin an app or channel, open the app or channel from your admin. Click the pin icon to keep the app or channel in your list. Click and drag the item to change its position. You can also pin an app or channel by dragging it directly to the preferred position in the side bar after opening it.

To unpin an app or channel, click the pin icon at the top of the app or sales channel header. To navigate to this app or channel in the future, use the search bar or the left sidebar navigation.

Apps and sales channels settings

Access the Settings page for your apps and sales channels from the search bar. You can also click Settings > Apps and sales channels from the left sidebar.

On the apps and sales channels settings page, you can Remove the app or channel, visit the Shopify app store, or Get support for the app or sales channel. Access the About page through the overflow menu in the header of any currently open embedded app. Clicking the name of an app or sales channel opens the item in your Shopify admin.

Shopify Home

The first screen that you see when you log in to the Shopify app is the Home screen.

Shopify Home is a landing page that shows key information about your store’s recent activity, the next steps you need to take with your orders, and tips on how to build your business.

Sales summary

The right sidebar of your Home screen displays your store's sales information. Use the drop-down menus at the top of the sidebar to change the view from All channels to a specific channel, or change the view from today's information to a specific date, week, month, or range of time.

Activity

All recent store activity is displayed in the right sidebar. This includes access granted to apps, staff changes, product publishing, and more. Click View all recent activity to see a larger list of actions taken on your store.

Notifications

The Home screen shows notifications of which open orders might need your attention. Notifications appear as a number next to the area that requires attention, for example, Orders. Notifications make it easy to see what next steps you need to take, such as capturing payment, marking an order as fulfilled, or archiving an order that is complete.

Home Cards

Cards are blocks of information that change regularly to help you run your business smoothly. Shopify Home displays cards based on your store's recent activity and what you've been doing in Shopify. Among other things, you'll receive:

  • updates on new Shopify features
  • advice on how to get the most out of Shopify
  • recommended reading on how to grow your business

You can dismiss and provide feedback about Home cards.

Click Dismiss to hide a card until the information becomes relevant again.

Click Send Feedback to leave feedback about a card. Shopify uses this information to improve future Home cards.

Today's store activity

Shopify Home shows your store's most recent visitor activity. Your store activity is recorded according to your store's local time zone:

  • Today's orders shows the total number of orders made on your Shopify store on any given day.

  • Today's visits shows the total number of visits to your Shopify store on any given day. You will only see this card if you have an online store.

  • Visitors live right now shows the number of visitors who have been active on your online store in the past 5 minutes. You will only see this card if you have an online store.

For more detailed information about your store's visitors, you can view your store's acquisition reports.

Metrics

The Home metrics section displays a sales summary for your overall business, and specific sales and engagement data for your active sales channels. You can view sales data for your different sales channels from Today, Yesterday, This week, and This month by using the drop-down menus.

If you want a closer look at your store's sales and engagement data, then open the Analytics page.
