Add customer tags

The Add customer tags action adds a tag to the customer that triggers the workflow.


The Add customer tags action contains the following fields.

Field Description
Tags The tags to add to an customer. Tags are case sensitive. To add multiple tags, do one of the following:
  • Enter each tag separately by typing the tag, and then pressing the enter key.
  • Enter multiple tags at once by separating them with commas. Whitespace between commas is removed.

    For example, entering tag1,tag2,tag3 and then pressing enter key results in tag1,tag2,tag3 initially displaying in the action. When the action is taken, three separate tags are added: tag1, tag2, and tag3.


The Add customer tags action has a hidden field added to it by the trigger. This field, Customer ID, identifies the customer to add a metafield to. The customer ID is set by default and can't be changed.

The Add customer tags can be used in workflows that start with the following triggers:

  • Draft order created
  • Customer created
  • Customer account enabled
  • Customer account disabled
  • Fulfillment created
  • Order cancelled
  • Order created
  • Order fulfilled
  • Order paid
  • Order risk analyzed
  • Order transaction created
  • Refund created


Example of a workflow that adds a tags when a customer is created
