The theme editor toolbar is divided into Sections and Theme settings.

You can use sections to modify the content and layout of the different pages on your store. You can use theme settings to customize your store's fonts and colors, and make changes to your social media links and checkout settings.

Sections

Sections are customizable blocks of content that determine the layout of your online store. Each theme includes static sections and dynamic sections.

Static sections

Static sections are always in specific locations on your online store. You can edit static sections, but you can't rearrange or remove them. Each type of page on your online store includes different static sections.

Dynamic sections

You can add, rearrange, and remove dynamic sections to customize the layout of your home page. Each theme has a unique set of dynamic sections to choose from.

Edit static sections

To edit the content of static sections:

  1. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.

  2. From the top bar drop-down menu, select the type of page that you want to edit.

For example, if you want to edit your Product pages section, then select Product pages from the drop-down menu. Because the Header and Footer sections appear on every page of your online store, you can edit these sections regardless of the page type that you select.

  3. Click the section containing the content that you want to edit.

  4. Edit the settings to suit your needs.

  5. Click Save.

Add dynamic sections

You can have up to 25 dynamic sections on your home page.

To add a dynamic section to your home page:

  1. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.

  2. In the theme editor toolbar, click Add section.

  3. Click the type of section that you want to add, then click Add. Each theme has a unique set of sections to choose from.

  4. Change the section's content by adding and editing the content blocks in the toolbar.

  5. Click Save or Publish to save your changes.

When you add an image to a section, the file is added to the Files section of your admin. You can reuse an uploaded image in other sections or pages of your store.

Rearrange dynamic sections

To rearrange dynamic sections:

  1. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.

  2. On the section that you want to move, click ⁞⁞ and drag the section to a different place:

Hide dynamic sections

You can hide sections that you don't want to display on your online store. You can hide sections that are unfinished, or that you are not ready to publish. For example, you can create a slideshow of new products, and then hide the section until you are ready to begin selling the new products. Or, you can create a section that advertises a seasonal discount, and then hide the section until the discount is active.

To hide a dynamic section:

  1. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.

  2. In the theme editor toolbar, click the eye icon for the section that you want to hide:

When a section is hidden, the eye icon has a slash through it:

To show a hidden section, click the eye icon again.

Remove dynamic sections

You can remove content from a dynamic section, or remove a dynamic section from your home page. Deleting content in this way removes the section content, but doesn't delete anything from your account. If you delete a product or collection block from a section, then that product or collection will still exist in your admin. If you delete an image in a section, you can still add that image to other sections.

Remove content from a dynamic section

To remove content from a dynamic section:

  1. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.

  2. Click the section containing the content that you want to remove.

  3. In the Content section, click the content you want to remove from the section.

  4. Click Delete [content], where [content] is the content type (collection, image, or logo, for example).

Remove a dynamic section

To remove a dynamic section:

  1. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.

  2. In the theme editor toolbar, click the section that you want to remove.

  3. Click Delete section at the bottom of the toolbar.

Undo and redo changes

The Undo button reverses your most recent change, and the Redo button adds back a change that you undid. Clicking the Undo button more than once will continue to Undo your work, one change at a time. You'll find the Undo and Redo buttons at the bottom of the theme editor:

Change theme styles

A theme style is a collection of settings chosen by the theme designer that you can apply to your store to give it a polished look and feel. All themes have a theme style applied by default. When you customize a theme, you replace the theme style settings with your own. If you apply a theme style to your theme, then your current settings, such as colors and typography, will change.

To change your theme style:

  1. Find the theme that you want to edit and click Customize.

  2. On the Theme settings tab click Change theme style.

  3. Click a theme style. If your theme includes more than one theme style, then they are listed in a column.

  4. Click Save.
