Jumpstart is made specifically for crowdfunding graduates, but is also perfect for selling one to ten products. Its home page showcases a video and a features section.

Theme editor

Use the theme editor to customize your theme. The theme editor toolbar is divided into Sections and Theme settings.

You can use sections to modify the content and layout of the different pages on your store. You can use theme settings to customize your store's fonts and colors, and make changes to your social media links and checkout settings.

Sections are customizable blocks of content that determine the layout of different pages on your online store.

  • Home sections include features such as a slideshow or a newsletter signup that you can add, re-arrange, or remove. You can have up to 25 sections on your home page.

  • Each type of page has its own sections. For example, the product page section determines the layout of each product page on your online store.

  • Page sections are always in specific places on your online store. You can customize them, but you can't re-arrange or remove them.

  • Each theme includes fixed sections, such as the header and footer, that show on every page of your online store.

Jumpstart includes the following static sections:

Dynamic sections

You can add, rearrange, and remove dynamic sections to customize the layout of your home page. Each theme has a unique set of dynamic sections to choose from.

With Jumpstart, you can upload an inverted logo to display in your header against a dark background. Jumpstart also features a product Buy now button to encourage your customers to purchase a featured product that you select.

Logo images for the header section should be 200px wide.

To customize the header section:

  1. Click Sections.

  2. Click Header.

  3. Add your logo and inverted (light-colored) logo to the header:

    1. In the Logo section, click Select image, and then do one of the following:
      • To select an image you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
      • To select an image from your local computer, click the Library tab, and then click the plus button.
    2. To add an inverted logo, check Inverted logo.
    3. In the Inverted logo area, click Select image, and then do one of the following:
      • To select an image you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
      • To select an image from your local computer, click the Library tab, and then click the plus button.
    4. Enter the logo's width in the Custom logo width (in pixels) field.
  4. Set your navigation menu options:

    1. In the Navigation section, select the navigation menu you want to display in your store's header from the Menu drop-down list.
    2. From the Menu style drop-down list, select either a classic menu, or a drawer-style menu.
    3. From the Classic menu color list, select whether you want the menu text to be light or dark.
  1. Select a product for the Buy now button:

    1. Click in the Product for "buy now button" field.
    2. Start typing a product name, or select one from the drop-down list.
  2. Click Save.

In the footer section, you can edit the content that appears at the bottom of every page in your store. You can add the following features to your footer:

  • your logo
  • a newsletter signup
  • a menu
  • payment icons

To customize the footer section:

  1. Find Jumpstart and click Customize.

  2. Click Sections.

  3. Click Footer.

  4. Add your logo to the footer by clicking Select image. To upload an image from your computer, click Upload. To use a free stock image from Burst, click Free images. If you don't use a logo image, then your store name will show instead.

  5. Adjust the width of your logo with the Custom logo width slider. Adjusting the logo width won't distort the image.

  6. To add a newsletter signup to your footer, do the following steps:

    1. Check Show newsletter.
    2. Enter a subheading for your newsletter signup in the Newsletter subheading field. The default subheading is "Promotions, new products and sales. Directly to your inbox."
  7. Customize the footer menu from the Menu area. To edit the default menu, click Edit menu. To change to a different menu, click Change, and then either select and existing menu or click Create menu.

  8. Add payment icons, such as Mastercard or PayPal, to your footer by checking Show payment icons.

  9. Click Save.

Product pages

In the Product pages section, you can add or remove a dynamic checkout button and social sharing icons.

To edit the settings for product pages:

  1. From the top-bar drop-down menu, select Product pages.

  2. Click Sections.

  3. Click Product pages.

  4. To show a dynamic checkout button, check Show dynamic checkout button.

  5. To show social sharing icons, check Enable product sharing.

  6. Click Save.

Collection pages

You choose the number of columns and rows for product images displayed on your collection page. The product images will be resized to fit the page.

  1. In the theme editor preview, open a collection page.

  2. Click the Sections tab.

  3. Click Collection pages.

  4. Select the number of rows and columns you want to display.

  5. Click Save.

Cart page

When customers add an item to their cart, they are taken to the cart page right away. With Jumpstart, there's no "continue shopping" button or cart drawer. Jumpstart is meant for selling a single product, so there shouldn't be a need for your customer to keep shopping when they've made a decision.

With Jumpstart, you can enable cart notes for the customer to send instructions about their order:

  1. In the theme editor preview, add a product to the cart page.

  2. Click the Sections tab.

  3. Click Cart page.

  4. Check Enable order notes.

  5. Click Save.

Image with text

Jumpstart includes an Image with text section that lets you show an image with a custom message to your customers.

  1. Click the Sections tab.

  2. Click Image with text.

  3. From the Alignment list, choose whether you want the image on the left or the right of the text.

  4. To add the image, in the Image area, click Select image, and then do one of the following:

    • To select an image you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
    • To select a stock image from Shopify's Burst stock image collection, click the Free images tab. From here you can enter a search term, or browse the image categories.
    • To select an image from your local computer, click the Library tab, and then click the plus button.
  5. Add the text to go with the image:

    1. In the Heading field, type the heading text you want to display.
    2. In the Text field, type the text you want to appear below the heading.
    3. In the Button label field, enter the text you want to appear on the button.
    4. In the Button link field, paste a link to a URL, or click in the field to select a page from your store.
  6. Click Save.

Slideshow

Jumpstart slideshow images are up to 1200px wide, so it's best to use an image that is at least 1200px wide, or up to Shopify's upload limits.

  1. Click the Sections tab.

  2. Click Slideshow.

  3. Click Slide.

  4. In the Image section, click Select image, and then do one of the following:

    • To select an image you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
    • To select a stock image from Shopify's Burst stock image collection, click the Free images tab. From here you can enter a search term, or browse the image categories.
    • To select an image from your local computer, click the Library tab, and then click the plus button.
  5. In the Link URL field, do one of the following:

    • to link the slideshow image to a page in your store, click in the Link URL field and select a page from the list of options.
    • to link the slideshow image to an external URL, enter the URL address in the Link URL field.
  6. Repeat steps 3 to 5 until you have finished adding slides to the slideshow.

  7. Click Save.

Jumpstart's Featured product section doesn't show the product description. The product description only appears on the product page. This is because the many other sections for the home page are meant to explain and describe your product as well. Think of the Featured product section as a "call to action" that gets your customers to click through to buy your product.

  1. Click the Sections tab.

  2. Click Featured product.

  3. Click in the Product field to select from an alphabetical list of products in your store, or enter a product name.

  4. Click Save.

Newsletter

You can add a newsletter signup to your home page. This lets you collect customer email addresses for email marketing campaigns. You can learn more about email marketing on the Shopify blog.

To add a newsletter signup to your home page:

  1. Find Jumpstart and click Customize.

  2. Click Sections.

  3. Click Add section > Newsletter.

  4. Enter a heading for your newsletter signup in the Heading field. The default heading is "Stay up to date".

  5. Enter a subheading for your newsletter signup in the Subheading field. The default text is "Promotions, new products and sales. Directly to your inbox."

  6. Click Save.

Campaign tracker

Jumpstart includes a unique Campaign tracker section that links to your fundraising site and shows how close your are to your fundraising goal:

  1. Click the Sections tab.

  2. Click Campaign tracker.

  3. In the Title field, enter a title for your campaign.

  4. In the Subtitle field, enter a subtitle. Leave this field blank if you don't want to display a subtitle.

  5. From the Stats style list, select whether you want to display a pie chart with smaller text, or a bar chart with larger text.

  6. In the Background image section, click Select image, and then do one of the following:

    • To select an image you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
    • To select a stock image from Shopify's Burst stock image collection, click the Free images tab. From here you can enter a search term, or browse the image categories.
    • To select an image from your local computer, click the Library tab, and then click the plus button.
  7. In the Campaign details section, enter the following statistics for your campaign:

    1. In the Funded percent field, enter the percentage of your total fundraising goal that you have raised.
    2. In the Funded amount field, enter the dollar amount you have raised.
    3. In the Number of backers field, enter the number of backers that have contributed to your campaign.
    4. In the Project URL field, enter the URL to your fundraising website.
  8. Click Save.

FAQs

You can add a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to your home page. You can use this section to provide details about your fundraising campaign (if you have one), or answer questions about your products or shipping and return policies.

  1. Click the Sections tab.

  2. Click FAQ.

  3. In the Header field, enter a title for the FAQ section. By default, the title is "FAQ".

  4. To add a question, do the following steps:

    1. In the Content section, click a FAQ section to expand it.
    2. In the Heading field, type the question.
    3. In the Text field, type the answer.
  5. Repeat step 4 until you have added all the questions for the FAQ section.

  6. Click Save.

Text columns with icons

The Text columns with icons section lets you group informative text with associated icons. For example, you can describe what sets your brand apart, provide customer testimonials, or highlight how easy it is to shop your store:

You can choose from hundreds of Font Awesome 4.7.0 icons. To display an icon, enter the icon name in the Icon name field. The icon will display automatically.

To add a text columns with icons section:

  1. Click the Sections tab.

  2. Click Text columns with icons.

  3. In the Heading field, enter the title that will appear above the text columns.

  4. Add a text column with an icon:

    1. Click Describe a feature.
    2. In the Icon name field, enter the name of the icon you want to display. For example, "cutlery" or "shopping-cart".
    3. In the Title field, enter a title for the text column.
    4. In the Text field, enter the body of the text.
    5. From the Container width drop-down list, select a width for the text column.
  5. Repeat step 4 until you are finished adding text columns.

  6. Click Save.

Video

You can add a video hosted on YouTube or Vimeo to your home page. Videos can engage customers and generate interest in your business.

To add a video to your home page:

  1. Find Jumpstart and click Customize.

  2. Click Sections.

  3. Click Add section > Video.

  4. Enter a heading for your video in the Heading field.

  5. Enter the share link for your video in the Video link field.

  6. Set the color for the heading text and the play button by selecting Dark or Light from the Text color drop-down menu.

  7. Add a cover image to your video by clicking Select image. To upload an image from your computer, click Upload. To use a free stock image from Burst, click Free images.

    The recommended size for a cover image is 1920 x 840 px.

  8. Click Save.

Theme settings

You can use theme settings to customize the colors and typography on your online store. You can also set up links to your social media accounts, edit your cart settings, and add a favicon.

Jumpstart includes the following theme settings:

Colors

You can choose the colors for the different parts of your online store.

Customize your color settings

  1. Next to **, click **Customize.

  2. Click Theme settings.

  3. Click Colors.

  4. For each type of content, click the color swatch to use the color picker:

    • The Recently selected area shows colors that you have recently selected for your theme.
    • The Currently used area shows colors that you are currently using in other parts of your theme.

    To set the color to transparent, click None.

  5. Click Save.

Typography

You can set the font style and size for the text on your online store.

Customize your typography settings

  1. Next to **, click **Customize.

  2. Click Theme settings.

  3. Click Typography.

  4. For each type of text, click Change to use the font picker:

  5. Explore fonts by using the search field, or by clicking Load more.

    To see all of the available fonts, see Shopify's font library.

  6. Click the name of the font that you want to use.

  7. To change the font to a different style, such as bold or italic, click Regular. Next, click the style that you want to use, and then click Select:

  8. Click Save.

Favicon

You can upload a favorites icon, or a "favicon", which can help brand your online store by displaying your logo in the following locations:

  • your web browser tab
  • your web browser's history
  • icons on your desktop
  • next to your online store name when it is bookmarked.

The best favicon image size for Jumpstart is 32 x 32px.

  1. Click the Theme settings tab.

  2. Click Favicon.

  3. In the Favicon image area, click Select image, and then do one of the following:

    • To select an image you have already uploaded to your Shopify admin, click the Library tab.
    • To select an image from your local computer, click the Library tab, and then click the plus button.
  4. Click Save.

Social media

You can add social sharing buttons for your products and blog posts, and links to your social media accounts.

To customize the social media settings:

  1. Find Jumpstart and click Customize.

  2. Click Theme settings.

  3. Click Social media.

  4. To upload a social sharing image, in the Social sharing image area, click Select image or Explore free images.

  5. To add links to your social media accounts, in the Social accounts area, enter the links to your accounts in the fields provided. Enter full links, such as https://instagram.com/shopify, or https://twitter.com/shopify.

    Links to your social media accounts show in the footer of your online store.

  6. Click Save.

This section lets you customize your store's checkout. Click here for more information about your store's checkout page.

Linking to home page sections

To make it easier for customers to get around your store's home page, you can add internal links to the different sections of your home page. To add internal home page links to a menu, set the link type to Web address and use one of the link addresses below as the destination:
