Adding and verifying bank account information for ACH debits

If your store's based in the United States, and you meet the eligibility requirements, then you can pay your Shopify account bills through Automated Clearing House (ACH) debits.

You can't apply to pay your Shopify bills by ACH debits, but if your store's eligible, then the option to pay through a bank account is available in your Shopify admin.

To pay your Shopify bills with ACH debits, you and your store must meet the following requirements that include, but aren't limited to:

  • Your Shopify store must be at least 90 days old.
  • Your store's monthly gross merchandise value (GMV) over the last 90 days must be at least $10,000 USD.
  • Your store must have more than 75% successful invoice collections on the first attempt within the last 90 days.
  • You must have a verifiable physical personal address within the United States, and the business must be based in the United States.
  • You must be using a USD bank account that can accept ACH debits.
  • Your business doesn't fall under the category of prohibited businesses as outlined in Stripe's Prohibited and Restricted Businesses policy.

When you enter your bank account information, you authorize Shopify and its agents to deposit and withdraw funds from your bank account by using the ACH network for verification purposes and bill payments.

Add your bank account

To add or update a bank account, you need to be the store owner, or a staff member with the View billing and receive billing emails and Edit billing payment methods and pay invoices permissions.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Billing.

  2. Click Billing profile.

  3. Add or replace a bank account:

    • To add a new bank account, click Add payment method.
    • To replace a bank account, click &#8230 > Replace for the bank account that you want to replace.
  4. If necessary, from the Payment method type drop-down menu, select Bank account.

  5. Enter the account and routing numbers for the bank account that you want to verify.

  6. Enter the store owner's name, and designate the account type as Private or Business.

  7. Click Start verification.

Verify your bank account

Within 1 to 3 business days of you adding your bank account, Shopify deposits two small amounts of less than $1.00 USD into your bank account. When you receive these deposits, you can then verify your bank account.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Billing.

  2. Click Billing profile.

  3. In the Payment methods section, click Complete verification for the bank account that you want to verify.

  4. Enter the two amounts that were deposited into your bank account.

  5. Optional: To make the verified account your primary payment method, select Make this bank account my primary payment method.

  6. Click Complete verification.

Successful verification

Upon successful verification, your bank account will be listed in the Payments section of your Shopify admin.

Unsuccessful verification

If the verification fails, then a message displays above the failed bank account indicating the unsuccessful verification. You can choose to replace or remove the failed bank account. You should contact your bank for further assistance before attempting verification again.
