Managing names for your organization

The Settings > Organization section of your Shopify admin displays your organization's name and a list of the stores in your organization. Each store in your organization displays the following information:

  • The store name.
  • A two-letter or three-letter store identifier and default icon or a custom icon.
  • The store's myshopify.com url.

You can perform the following actions from the Organization page of your Shopify admin settings:

To manage details for stores in your organization, go to the Settings > General page of your Shopify admin for that store. Learn more about managing store details.

Update organization name

Only the organization owner can edit the organization name.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Organization.

  2. Click the Edit icon next to your organization name.

  3. Enter the new name.

  4. Click Save.

Store identifiers

Store identifiers include your store's internal name, initials, and icon. Identifiers are used by partners, users, and store staff to identify stores in your organization. Ensure that the store identifier is meaningful so that users can select stores easily.

The store initials are displayed as a two-letter or three-letter abbreviation in the global navigation menu. By default, the store initials are based on the first letters of a store's name. For example, a store with the name Svenshirts has the initials "Sve".

You can add the store's internal name and initials when you create a store, and update them as needed. The internal store name and initials don't affect what's displayed in your store or in any customer communications.

Update internal store name and initials

If you change a store's internal name and initials, then they should be unique. Stores with identical names or initials make it difficult for users to identify stores.

Changing the internal store name from Organization settings doesn't change the store's name. To change the store's name, update the store details from the Settings > General page of your Shopify admin.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Organization.

  2. In the Stores section, click the icon of the store that you want to update.

  3. In the dialog, edit the Store name field, Store initials field, or both.

  4. Click Save.

The sidebar menu of your Shopify admin displays the new internal name and initials.

Update a store internal icon

If you change a store's internal icon, then the new icon should be unique. Stores with identical icons make it difficult for users to identify stores. To update the store icon, navigate to the admin of that store. The new internal icon displays in the store's admin and the store's listing in your organization.

Steps:

  1. From your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Organization.

  2. In the Stores section, click the store with the internal icon that you want to update.

  3. In the store's Shopify admin, click Settings.

  4. Next to the store name, click the store icon.

  5. Click Upload icon to upload a new icon for the store.

  6. Click Save.

The sidebar menu of your Shopify admin displays the new internal icon.
