You might find it helpful to read our glossary of terms before reading about Shopify Capital and its funding options.
Eligibility for funding from Shopify Capital
If you're eligible for funding from Shopify Capital, then you'll receive an email and see a message on the Home page of your Shopify admin inviting you to view your available funding options.
If you do not receive an invitation to view your funding options, then you are not eligible for funding from Shopify Capital at this time.
Authenticate your bank account
If you're eligible to authenticate your bank account, then you'll see a message on the Home page of your Shopify admin inviting you to connect your bank account.
Authenticating your bank account increases your chances of being eligible for additional funding from Shopify Capital. Shopify uses the transactional data from your connected bank account to verify the health of your business and maximize the amount of funding offered by Shopify Capital.
Shopify Capital and Shopify Payments
To receive funding from Shopify Capital, you need to enable Shopify Payments.
If you're using Shopify Payments, then after you receive funding from Shopify Capital, you can't deactivate Shopify Payments until the total merchant cash advance is fully remitted or your loan has been repaid. If you try to deactivate Shopify Payments while you're in an ongoing funding agreement with Shopify Capital, then you'll see an Unable to deactivate Shopify Payments message. When the total merchant cash advance is fully remitted or your loan is fully repaid, you can deactivate Shopify Payments.
You can still change the bank account associated with your Shopify Payments from Settings > Payment providers. This changes the bank account where your Shopify Payments payouts are deposited to, as well as where your Shopify Capital remittances are withdrawn from. The remittances and payouts can not happen from separate accounts.
Shopify Capital and third-party payment providers
In some cases, you can receive funding from Shopify Capital when using a third-party payment provider. However, in most cases, you need to switch to Shopify Payments in order to accept a Shopify Capital offer.
If you're using a third-party payment provider, then you can change your banking information at any time by clicking Change bank account on the Capital settings page of your Shopify admin.
